I kinda feel like these people take all the fun out of these cars but whatever floats their boat I guess.

Some stuff can be fascinating. Like how guys built these cars in the 60's, or as my son erroneously says...."back in the black & white days". lol http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../67-camaro.jpg |

The 2016 Camaro Nationals are coming up in exactly 60 days. I got so burnt out two years ago that I didn't go back last year. There is a saying that the "devil is in the details" and it's the weird stuff like underbody color (don't get me started), a few incorrect bolts, and rear sail panels where when it was reupholstered the pleating went in the wrong direction. However, a few things make no sense to me, like on the rear stripes I was deducted for "corners not sharp" which when I compare my rear stripes to original pics I can't tell what the deduction is for. Jeff68 has helped me out in a huge way in figuring things out!!!! With Jeff's help, the good news is that I should be about 50 points away from hitting Legends Gold and I should have more than enough stuff straightened out to hit it. |
You going to the nationals this year dave?
|

It's the first time that it's not on the same days as the GM Nationals. |
It's a week a way and there's about 5 small items that I forgot about like the seat latches that they said were in poor condition. They have to be sent out to be plated.
Another thing is that there is a lot of conflicting info on the flashers. There are two flashers: 1) Hazards on the fuse panel 2) Turn Signals under the dash Trying to sort it all out, I think that: Fuse panel/Hazards - Tung-Sol 552 or Signal-Stat 170 Underdash/Turn Signal - Tung-Sol 224 So.....unless I figure something else out, that's what I'm going with. |
The Z did great in Legends judging this year. It jumped right over gold and made platinum!!! I don't believe that very many cars have made it that far.
The score was 98.5%. I have not slept much this past week and I am beyond tired. As soon as I can think clearly, I will post pictures. I ended up being parked between a lemans blue Yenko (with a numbers matching engine and rear end) and a lemans blue COPO and that made for some really cool pics that I haven't taken off the camera yet. |
I looked through the judging records and I believe only 14 cars including my Z have ever made platinum in Legends which is a 5000 point class.
It was awesome being parked between a Lemans blue Yenko and a Lemans blue RS COPO. There were 201 Yenko Camaros sold directly out of Yenko Chevrolet and I was told by the owner that it was one of 3 known to have it's original engine. Having the other COPO car in the pic is the icing on the cake. That is a once in lifetime pic for the Z! http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...-nationals.jpg |
Congratulations!! It's always grate to see all that hard work and effort pay off in such an incredible fashion!!
:medium-smiley-114: |
That's insane!!! Congratulations again buddy! From a detailers prospective I can appreciate the time involved to make those cars what they are. I would love to attend someday as a spectator.

Now you can drive the Car right? |

The Camaro Nationals usually gets between 350 to 450 Camaros and Firebirds. It's a real mixed crowd of 1st to 6th gens and some of the cars are wild. |

Only 100 cars are invited and the attendance is supposed to be about 12,500 spectators: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-boston-cup Boston Cup 2015 article: http://www.boston.com/cars/news-and-reviews/2015/09/18/cars-take-over-the-boston-common-this-weekend-including-one-worth-million/X22yOjhIvQidilhhF2r7HP/story.html 2015 winners: http://thebostoncup.com/winners/ |
That's awesome David, congrats! If I recall correctly you were expecting gold but not platinum correct?

There were a few things that I did not want to change and I wasn't sure how many points I could get back on things like the hood gaps not being perfect, since they were never perfect even off the assembly line. So....I tried to get as many items fixed as I could. I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out! I received great technical advice from Jeff68 (on this site), Mike Labrecque, Dale Murphy, and Chick Renn. |
The formal invitation to the Boston Cup came in today.
The 69Z in with the Rolls Royce crowd should be real interesting. I'm thinking that if I showed up with a mullet wig, ripped jeans and a joe dirt t-shirt, security would probably throw me straight up and into the air! LOL. I hoping that one or two folks on the site might stop by including the world's greatest detailer....Smokinss. That would be nice! |

That's awesome Dave.

They get some real high end cars and I'll be from the "other side of the tracks", but I'm looking forward to showing the car there. Like this "1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, worth an estimated $58 million": http://bostinno.streetwise.co/2014/09/12/most-expensive-car-ever-1962-ferrari-250-gto-berlinetta-boston-common-cup-classic-car-show-2014-pictures/ |
Awesome Dave. I already spoke to Michelle about going and she was really interested. I am assuming this is open to the public? Can you provide me with some details about getting in?

Hope to see you there. |
It's gotta be a show for big dogs if it costs $150 just to be in it! :ls1queenbitch:

Yep, and it's mostly just the owners and sponsors paying. Quote:

I'm going to need a lot of coffee on the way. |
Dave have you use to hauling the trailer?
|
Hey Frank....I guess I'm used to it now. I still suck at backing up though. LOL.
|
Hey I'll be ur truck driver.
|
Let's set up some long haul shows for the car like dn south for the winter season lol.

Here's to hoping the Z turns some heads and raises some eyebrows:emot-sotw::Funny_Smiley::sCh_eleguitarist: |

There were some beautiful cars there. I was in the same class as a 1930 Duesenberg Model J. Man, that car was beautiful. The Audrain Auto Museum from Newport Rhode Island brought it. I was taking a few pictures of it and I was told it was worth between 2 to 3 million. When, I was leaving though, the tow vehicle looked like a really beat up 80's Ford Econoline. A little weird. I didn't take the pics I took off the camera yet, but it looked like this: http://i0.wp.com/cdn1.supercars.net/...-by-murphy.jpg |
Gangster car
|
The Z got accepted into the 2018 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) Concours Stock Judged Vehicles 1000 point Class.
The show is Nov 17 & 18. I'm hoping that the weather will cooperate. I'm going to look into the cost of a commercial hauler trailering it there. I have read a lot of horror stories though. |
Congratulations!!!
I thought you had already gone closed trailer with the past trips? Maybe you can rent one? Personally - I wouldn't trust that car to be out of sight....:sFi_snowball: |

Yep. I have a trailer, but the thought of towing it around Chicago in the winter gives me the creeps. You are also right that it shouldn't be out of sight. Between the two options, I'm not really sure about either one. |
