DAWG 12-19-2011 11:54 PM

the cowl area on every camaro looks like that I replaced the dash and cowl on my camaro.

ls6monte 12-20-2011 12:02 AM

That's not too bad for a 40+ year old car that was driven pretty hard in it's lifetime.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-20-2011 02:04 AM

yeah not as bad as i expected at all! But stilllllllll number two camaro?!?!?!?!?! hahahaha

DavidS 12-20-2011 02:16 AM

Have you done more work on your 69 Camaro? Any new pics? Did you use any of the interior pieces you picked up in Granby a while back?

jeff68 12-21-2011 01:52 AM

Looks good David. Now that it's stripped, It's going to save me a bunch of time when I'm over at the shop. I'd end up standing there a while, just looking at your Z, taking in how unmolested everything is.

I think I have left it fully molested.....HA. At least Mike has loads of pics and anything rotting or pin-holed will be removed or repaired.

Also, THANKS for answering all my questions on weatherstripping, coils, distributor caps, etc!!!!!!

jeff68 12-21-2011 03:14 PM

I saw the stripped shell in person this morning when dropping off x-mas cookies with the crew. It's really in great shape!

DavidS 12-21-2011 09:10 PM

Mike sent me a few more pics after they cleaned it off.

With help from Jeff68, I was able to track down NOS trunk weatherstrip. Buying anything for a 69 Camaro NOS is a real pain because there is not much left and those that have it want huge $$$. On the other side, going with repop can be more painful because a lot of times it is foreign junk and doesn’t fit.

The only one that is known to fit with no problems is part number 4468625 that has a white string in it.
The other later part numbers I think don’t fit very well 8723802, 9825829, and 3060942.

The interior standard door panels that were on the car are in bad shape. I picked up a set on EBay and they came in today. They are not perfect, but they were only $305 and no one else bid on them. They are also a lot better than the ones that were on the car. I am going to try to find a good local upholsterer that works with vinyl to try and make them better. The bottom edges are very brittle in some areas.

There is a manufacturer, part numbers, and dates on the back. It's a little strange that I did a whole bunch of Internet searches on Seaman. One guy confirmed the Seaman and numbers on camaros.net and there is no info on the CRG (camaros.org).

The drivers side has "Seaman 7793352 10-14-68"
The passenger side has "Seaman 7793353 9-24-68"

Both dates are great for me since it is a 69 01B car.

try here David
Classic Auto Interiors
118 Putter Lane, Torrington, CT 06790-2302
(860) 489-5715
I seen his work and its flawless.
IMO I would have just gotten repop panels cuz door panels are one of those things that you wont find in good shape that are original.‎
trust me I looked high and low lol.

Thanks Dawg! I'll either give them a call or stop in and talk to them.

These EBay ones are not too bad. They just need a little work to make them perfect.

For the COPO car I picked up real nice repops from TMI Products. I compared them to the original panels and the differences are very small. The COPO car is a clone car loaded with repop stuff anyway.

The Z will end up with very little repop.

DavidS 12-30-2011 11:40 PM

NOS dash panel came in today. It looked good but had a little rust on it and is a little bent in one spot. 43 years old though so overall it is A-OK.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...-51-47_711.jpg

but the original GM box it was in had a very hard life. LOL.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2-02-16_70.jpg

I dropped it off at Labrecque Autocraft and Mike has the Z in primer.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...-43-35_605.jpg

and I verified that the old door panels that were on the car have the same part number as the ones I picked up on EBay "Seaman 7793352"
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...-37-17_261.jpg

There was also a 69 Firebird there that Mike restored with a frame off restoration a while back and the guy wanted a few changes. Sweet. This guy should join the club!!!!

I know Ron, but I gotta have my fun too!

Besides, Alex's college fund is pretty well funded with a 529 plan that I keep paying into. And the wife is getting her kitchen renovation started in two weeks.

These cars are something for me though! Mike Labrecque is pretty good about going as fast or as slow as customers want. He has 30 cars in the shop almost all the time and even though you have to have the $ he will pace the work out so that customers don't get sunk quick.

I am hoping that with the Z that it can be a trailer queen for a year or two before turning it into a local car show type of car. I would like to be able to bring it to the Camaro Nationals in June 2013. There are loads of weird little details to work out along the way though. I am doing my best to not have any foreign repop stuff on it but finding original NOS stuff can be very frustrating.

DAWG 02-21-2012 02:19 PM

Any updates on the cars David?

DavidS 02-21-2012 04:23 PM

Hey Dawg, Hope your wisdom teeth are feeling better. When are you getting them pulled?

For the Z, the passenger side quarter panel had some major rust. Andrew cut a section out of it and welded a new piece in.
