yeah especially with a big block and a stick!

DavidS 06-29-2012 06:10 PM

Dawg, The subframe connectors will be the last thing going on per the instructions you sent......

"the subframe connectors should be one of the last components installed on your vehicle. Reason being is you want the vehicle settled with all of it’s own final weight. The car’s body is always in constant tension, with forces pushing or pulling within the chassis & body. You want to make sure these forces don’t change after you install the subframe connectors. For example, if you installed subframe connectors before installing the engine and body panels this may result in having misaligned fenders, door panels and/or hood later on. The car must be in it’s final state before the subframe connectors are installed."

David, what exhaust are you using? Looks almost like a Gardner but modified for headers. Nice to see that you didn't decide to go with one of those 'big' flowmaster-type systems. The transverse muffler just looks so right on 1st gen Camaros. Well, I guess because it IS right.

Do you ever visit CT Mike? Any relatives here? Do you ever go to any CT car shows? It would be cool to meet up when the COPO car is done.

Oh man...you're good Jeff and you're exactly right.....it's a Gardner. I saw a real COPO restored by the Supercar Workshop and they had pictures online of the Gardner system they used. I sent the picture to Gardner and said "I want that".

Mike Labrecque modified it for the headers.

also....I'm fairly certain that the gas tank straps are supposed to be black, so I stopped in today and asked Mike to make them black.

The only person that gets to beat on the car is me! For the most part I take it easy though.

LOL.

Pizza helps a lot of people and is a pretty amazing guy, so he gets to drive but I might have to be in the passenger seat. Unless he visits CT at some point and we meet up.

The same goes for Dawg and Jeff since they are always helping me out.

For anybody else who wants to take a ride.....we can probably figure something out at Quabbin 2013.

DAWG 07-01-2012 01:15 PM

thks David but ill pass.
I dont let anyone drive my car and such.
but ill take a ride with ya!
you might convert all these guys to first gens if you not careful lol.

941LE 07-01-2012 07:17 PM

A lot of guys on this site use their cars as their daily driver. A first-gen is not practical as a daily driver.

In 1984, I had a 1980 Z/28 as a daily driver for 2 years. Even a 2nd gen is not very practical as a daily driver.

941LE 07-02-2012 12:53 AM

Well it's a good thing I have a Yukon for a DD then.

I remembered seeing a picture of it and I just went back and checked. It looks great! Are you getting a trailer at some point? You mentioned towing your car to the track.

My84Z 07-02-2012 03:53 AM

I'd daily drive the shit outta any gen lol just not one as mint as yours lol

941LE 07-02-2012 01:38 PM

I do plan on getting a trailer when I can afford one.

Yes, they should be semi-gloss black. On your Z car, make sure to use the original tank straps. They are slightly different than the repops and they have a stamping on them.

Thanks for checking on the straps!!!

Have you ever researched inspection markings? It seems like a lot of restorers get carried away and the term used for this is "inspection graffiti".

I'd like to get pictures on a few common chassis inspection markings that most first-gens would have had. Have you seen anything like this? I've done some searching on camaros.net and camaros.org but I think I'm going in circles.

jeff68 07-03-2012 01:41 PM

David-
I have done some light research on the topic. I'm actually still trying to decide if I want to put any markings back on my car. All I found on mine was the P, B & T markings along with some white crayon markings on the engine. Other than that, the 160,000 miles of Connecticut driving did away with almost everything else on my car.

Anyhow, back to the question. I've never seen any SPOT regarding correct inspection markings for 1st gen cars. (SPOT = single point of truth.) Your best bet is to clean each original part very carefully, then see what you find. The original markings may be very faint. You can also check out the pictures on the Lucas Restorations site for reference. I don't know if what they do is 'correct', but they are supposed to really know their stuff.

Super easy to find as a reproduction part. Heartbeat City has them for $6.95, part number INT-2333.

It looks like the clutch pedal is missing the horizontal trim piece and it should look like this:

http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...3_118_full.jpg

It looks like I have to order 2 of INT-2333.

It'll be great to have this car done. I'm planning on driving it a lot and it should be a real fun car.

The car that's keeping me up nights though is the Z. I'm having a hard time figuring out details to make it close to the way it was.

For example, the underbody color. I just can't figure out how it was in 1969.

frankzlt1 07-10-2012 03:28 AM

Yea that gotta drive you nuts just reading some of those articles you posted and what you explained later about it, man I can understand it lol.

DavidS 07-23-2012 06:00 PM

Brake lines are in and bled. Doors are painted. Headliner is in.

Next up: Steering wheel column, wiring, doors back on, and glass

Mike said it should be 3 to 4 weeks until it's done.

One problem is that the repop bumper does not come close to fitting and he is going to send the original out to be rechromed. It could be about 6 to 8 weeks to get the bumper back.

That is coming out awesome! Every little touch to make it perfect!! so why not try a diff repop bumper?

Mike said that the original bumper fits perfect. I don't know if the repops are made by the thousands by the same Chinese outfit and different companies put their label on it for resale. This is the repop: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/s...op-Quality-69/

Probably better to rechrome the original.

BadBird505 07-24-2012 12:00 AM

the detail work is awesome.

frankzlt1 07-24-2012 12:54 AM

That car going to be awesome when its done. Better than factory.

DavidS 08-02-2012 02:47 PM

Steering column is in. Doors are on. Remote filter is in. Headliner and headliner moldings are in.

Wiring is still on order. Rear bumper was sent out to be rechromed.

Fenders should be going on soon.
