Best car for around 5k?

Long story short my mom totaled her truck and needs a new vehicle. Shes looking at impalas and other cars based on that platform. She does about 50-75 miles a day so fuel effiency must be decent. Not really sure what to look for but shes open to suggestion. Any help would be great guys

Something smaller than an Impala if you want decent MPGs

Is it going to be just a commuter or is she using for other things. Reason I ask is she had a truck before. My wife has a 00 Bonneville has 3800 in it and runs great gets not bad mileage, gets about 12 or city and hi way gets around 21 or so. The car is the same as an impala.

12 city and 21 highway is horrible for that car. I had a 96 with over 180k and i averaged 23-24mpg. Somethings not right with your wifes car.

I would recommend a Camry if its just basic transportation. my 01 has 225k on it and still averages around 30mpg and the only thing i had to replace was a valve cover gasket 40 bucks and an exhaust leak 80 bucks.

Your right that's not great milage I don't drive the hardly at all I just put gas in it ( of course ) I was figuring on the milage the cars been getting lately and I forgot my wife runs the car when she gos outside for break. The last time we used the for any long distance it did get 24 plus on the highway. I'm sure it still gets that it only has 70 k on it.

Were looking at an impala next saturday. She wants an old lady car and as long as the gas mileage is better than what you her truck was she doesnt mind.
