Don: Enlighten me... Low numbers..
Ok, first of all I am blaming a stock 78mm P+P'd LS1 tb to be choking back some power. I never really looked into a bigger TB as I though you couldn't go much bigger on an LS6 intake. I'm not gonna ask this on LS1Tech because this is a smaller forum and the thread won't get lost in an hour. Or if anyone else wants to but in. IT'S NOT THE CAM AND I'M NOT GETTING A BIGGER ONE. I'm gonna max this one out with top of the line parts first before I get a different cam.
Don: What do you think is choking back the power, besides the tune and the altitude it was tuned at. -> 414/372 at Texas Speed at 3800ft on a dynojet. 403/381 on yours, running rich at Dyno Day. TSP also did not use a WBo2 in the Y, just probed the tip. LS6 intake w 78mm (Gettin an 85 and will make it work) LS6 CNC P+P'd heads (can't easily find a fast 92) PRC dual gold valve springs Cam at 224/228 .637.639 110 +0 (dot to dot.. designer put down 459/410 with it, so it has potential, but my heads are killing 15-20 I know that) Cometic HG's SLP Tuned length LT's (not seeing as an issue anymore) Somewhat damaged 3" Y-pipe That should be all you really need to know, unless I missed something. Dyno sheet from TSP. PatG said it needed a little more fuel down low and said the smoothing was wrong.. ???? http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...jpg?1228783632 |
honestly i don't think your numbers are low for the cam/heads your setup is basicly a cam only ls6 like a 03ish zo6 vette. I think they just got your hopes up with a inflated dyno.
|
^ Yeah, i really want some good heads and a FAST 90 or 92 and see how it runs. And a New Y with the flow merge.
|
Yeah I don't expect much more out of that combo in those conditions. Why did you go with so much lift on such a low duration? I don't think it will hurt you but I don't see you gaining much out of it either. and 460 with that cam is total BS on 93 octane on a stock cube motor, he is full of shit. I personally don't think you would see much gain with a 90MM intake, maybe 7-10 HP. If you think that is worth $1200.00 then go for it
|
^ No it's not BS.. He knows his shit.. It's a PatG Tq cam.. I'm only looking for 440/400 out of my current setup with a better intake and TB. (And his #'s were 459/410, I stand corrected.) That's why I bought this cam. Great drivability and a "baby Cam" as I call it. I am determined to make the same or more power than the MS4 with this cam on an LS1/6 block. I did about 3 years worth of research on cams before I settled on this one. This thing WILL surprise the hell out of people and I intend to do so. I've already walked an MS4 cam with this combo. :|
#'s on page 15. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...am-change.html Quote:

Considering Nick's old car made somethng like 460 RWHP with TFS heads and a better intake/cam, I dont see 460 happening. I could be wrong.
I do agree with nick about the duration being short, thats very low for a cam with that much lift. I would have probably been in the 230's minimum. |
Your #'s are normal for what you've got.
Patrick knows what he is doing but he won't throw a magic set of pistons/rings into our car. Some car's dyno alot higher than others. Now,if you want to spend $$ for more gain, here ya go. SLP headers -dump the equal length garbage and buy 1 7/8 Kooks or ARH. Yes,SLP's do loose power. FAST intake, don't waste time or $$ on the 85mm TB stuff. Heads have to be atleast 60cc chambers. There's a start for ya. It gets expensive chasing those dyno $'s. |
Most importantly how happy are you with the way it runs/drives? Don't bet the ranch on dyno numbers alone, they really mean next to nothing. My old set-up only dyno'd 385/387 but ran 11's all day long every day once I got the chassis dialed in and completed the driver mod. I also missed the SLP headers, good eye Don. definitely junk those, they are awful headers

It drives almost like stock with mild cam surge on 3.42 gears, but go damn does it pull like a bitch over 3k. :D I REALLLLLLLLLLLLY want TFS heads, HS rockers, and either ARH or Kooks LT's anyway. My car dyno'd 336/346 with bolt ons only, so I figured the SLP headers were ok. I've asked around and they said there isn't much of a change from LT to LT so I wrote it off, but I still just want newer technology set of LT's and I'm torn between ARH's or Kooks. I was set on ARH, but I've been looking at kooks also as they have a strong reputation behind them, but the ARH design is identical. Maybe I'm a dyno racer... Dunno yet.. Just started thinking that I might be. |
You may not see too much now but get a good set of heads and the SLP's will kill you

The little things add up for hp. My basic cam package for a stock driving car makes 390-410rwhp with just a Cam,headers, underdrive pulley and ported stock TB. Add heads and a FAST they go to 430-455rwhp but it adds up quick.
For hp,sometimes it's cheaper to take a stock car and just do a blower setup..LOL |
^ I'll save some money and peruse the tech vendor and sale sections for the parts I want. Would Kooks 1 7/8" into 2" be too much? That would kill some low end, wouldn't it?

See what it runs at the track. It drives people crazy when they have 50 more whp than I do in the same car and they are slower at the track.
Dyno numbers are mostly bs anyway. Every single time I see a thread on ls1tech about a simple combo putting out amazing numbers it seems to always be on a Dynojet. |

dynojet isnt a load dyno. a mustang dyno is. and its a more real world number. If its a number your after. if you want bloated hop on a Dynojet and make your peepee feel bigger. Kinda like running race gas to say your car makes 470 rwhp.........

^ Yeah, I'll run it again when I get settled, and the car weights 34** in street trim. -It's been a couple years. I've done some weight reduction. Street trim = 2 12" sub box, me in it @ 185, and heavy ass wheels @ 31 lbs a piece, also with a 1/4 tank of gas and some crap in the back set.
As soon as I get some money saved and get caught up, I'm gonna get some drag wheels or CCW Billets. |
did you actually weigh the car or is that what is on the registration/title? that weight is dry weight, add fluids and yourself and you will be 3600 or more race weight
|
^ I weighed it on a CAT scale at a gas station. The sticker on the car is for the gross weight. It's been a couple years, but I'm pretty certain it was 3416 or so.
|
ive alwasy seen camaros weigh in around 3400ish. trans ams on the other hand Holy Christ is this car heavy. i had to remove the passengers seat and do skinnies up front to get it bellow 3600 pounds. DAMN IRON BLOCK!!!!
|
Well my SS made 363 rwhp and 369rwtq on motor on a nitrous tune. 224 cam, bolt-ons, ported stock TB and no underdrive pulley. I went 12.6s at 111 on motor with a 120 degree track temp on the same nitrous tune. Car weighs in just over 3700 with full interior, driver and a 1/2 tank. So I would run that thing at the track and not worry so much about numbers. I know with a better tire and the bottle on next time I will def hit bottom 11s, just need the practice.

whats alot lighter about it? enlighten me? the hatch on the V6/formy is heavier FYI i dont see any weight gains over it aside from a stripper wich i dont have. i have everything but leather. just saying.
And Bayer get over the dyno number bandwagon. run the fucking thing. if it meets your goals leave it alone! |
ground effects, bumper covers and the spoiler are 100+ pounds by themselves once you include the mounting hardware. T/A also has almost every option (yes some formulas do but alot didn't) and the leather is quite a bit more weight by itself. I bet it is at least a 150-200 pounds heavier. I don't know who told you the formy hatch was heavier, if anything it is a wash, the T/A spoiler is pretty heavy
|
|
have you picked up both hatches?
i have with and without spoilers. the spoiler is under 10 pounds. and if you have a similar optioned car i really cant see it weighing That much more is all im saying. 100 pounds Ish. My ta with leather and all power options was Actually Lighter then the "formula" and thats with cloth interior and no back seats. fuigire that one out? |
