New project....

So assuming Last of A Breeds Formula is what I am looking for I have been already working out a game plan, going to be a very different build then the Trans Am was, going to go more precision then brute force. Lightweight with medium power. So if you guys beg enough I may start leaking info.....

course downside is it will happen at a snails pace cause I have very little spare cash....but hey perfection takes time.....

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 10:19 PM

If your looking body only on that car its gonna pan out I think. Wtf are you buildingggggg???? Tell me or bannnnn

Batman 08-23-2010 10:24 PM

If you bannnnnn I can't possibly tell you can I? It will be unique.....I promise that

Batman 08-23-2010 10:25 PM

give you a hint, engine will still displace about the same....

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 10:27 PM

Keeping it 305? It better be on boost!

Batman 08-23-2010 10:28 PM

never said it was gonna be a SBC.....and it will actually be a 5.1, assuming the pistons will come up enough in the bore to keep compression and the geometry works going to do a 4.8 crank with 5.7 rods in an LS1 block. Something that will rev sky high. Since gobs of power won't be important I think it would be a cool engine to try and make. Everyone keeps going big, don't know anyone who has tried something like this. That is why I am hell bent on a 3rd Gen Formula, can fairly easily get the weight down to high 2XXX to low 3XXX pounds without getting stupid like removing crash bars and such. Also with the small displacement I can get away with much cheaper heads and such as something as simple as 243 heads will probably suffice

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 10:34 PM

Huh??? Bord or stroked 4.8?

Batman 08-23-2010 10:38 PM

.010 over, on a 5.7 block the 5.7 rods are shorter then the 4.8 rods, so it changes the dislacement a bit. I think it comes out at 312CI if I remember correctly. So it would have the short stroke crank and the short rods with the 5.7 bore

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 10:41 PM

What piston to keep the deck height correct?

There in lies the problem, still researching if I will be able to get a piston with enough height to keep some kind of compression in the engine....if not it will be a 5.7 lol. With the lower power levels it will save alot of cash in the drivetrain area also.....which in turn will save more weight. sadly with around 415 Flywheel HP it would probably be damn near as fast as the T/A was.....

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 10:46 PM

Boostttttt! But an ls powered turdgen would kick ass!

Greenbird94ta 08-23-2010 10:47 PM

buy it!!!!

Batman 08-23-2010 10:48 PM

Lol, add boost and all the drivetrain stuff has to be beefed up, I am shooting for a 2900 pound curb weight. And realistically you are looking at at least a year or two before it will be ready for the engine. Starting at the tailpipes and going forward, same way I did the T/A. Only other hassle will be the Y-pipe for an LSX, pretty much have the rest covered

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-23-2010 11:04 PM

Custom exhaust shop like AXP will weld up mandrel sections for a good y pipe. Hell I can do it. Sh its easy if th ats the only issue I say your good!

Batman 08-23-2010 11:14 PM

You say that but the Y-pipe has proven to be a PITA for alot of swappers with the position of the torque arm/subframe. There is no room on the driver side. Plus I need to keep Cats in it to pass inspection so I was just thinking of modifying the magnaflow dual cat Y pipe and adjusting the length and flanges to fit the LSX manifolds, but that is a LONG way off still. rear axle will be hurdle #1

Slowhawk 08-24-2010 12:46 AM

You can pretty much have any rod/piston combo made for not much than off the shelf parts.I've got a forged 4.8L sitting at my house that we had to custom order pistons/rods for about 6 years ago.

Formula413 08-24-2010 12:53 AM

Sounds like a cool idea, 3rd gen looks and Corvette performance.

*LS1* Queen 08-24-2010 01:32 AM

hmm id like to see this happen

Lol, send me enough money and it'll be ready in 2 months....

But realistically to GET to the point where it is time to put an engine is a long way off since I don't even have a car yet. And if I take this Formula the car still has to be finished before I go doing an engine swap. No desire to go with the engine upgrade and have a car with a bunch of broken parts all the time. Going to start at the back and work forward so the rear axle is gonna be step 1 after I do some rust prevention

Greenbird94ta 08-24-2010 03:43 AM

i wanna see this happen too, blueballzmobile will live on!

84ta406 08-24-2010 08:12 PM

If you need a hand or any turdgen parts let me know nick. Got a buncha things laying around.

Batman 08-24-2010 09:30 PM

Thanks Josh, i'll let you know. Of the parts coming off not sure how much 3rd gen will be left but you never know on the interior and such

bottledbird68 08-24-2010 10:00 PM

And if Josh doesn't have it I probably do lol.

A couple years ago I was hoarding third gens. At one point I had five of the damn things sitting in the yard, plus a few others that came and went. Sold one, kept a couple, stripped the rest. I have a TON of shit ;)

Batman 08-24-2010 11:39 PM

Lol, yeah I have tons of 3rd gen stuff too, it does seem to accumulate. Talked to my engine shop guy, he said no worries on pistons so it is looking good. Just have to decide on the valve train. May actually start doing the engine early next year. Still have to get the GTA back up and running before anything can be done anyway. what do you guys think for rockers? kinda narrowed it down to Yella Terra and T&D. Since I plan on turning alot of RPM I obviously can't skimp on valvetrain but do you think T&D's are worth it without a solid roller?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-25-2010 12:46 AM

You know my vote!

84ta406 08-26-2010 01:22 PM

I hear a lot of good on the Yella Terra. But I dont know LSx stuff.
