Looking for winter car.

Ok, figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knows of anything not advertised.
Been all over craigslist so I know what's there. Looking for either a wrx, or awd talon/eclipse. Lots of miles ok if price reflects it. Body damage is cool too and actually almost preferred lol.
Basically wrx for 5g's ish or dsm for half or less. Not looking for a gem. Just a beat up old shitbox that we can still enjoy driving all winter ;)

We made wrex too nice and don't want to subject the poor car to salt and sand anymore. Anything out there off the beaten path? Condition not important as long as price reflects it. Thanks guys

Umm, no. Awd, 4x4, or maybe rwd only. NO front wheel drives. Can't stand them. Really want one of the two types of car mentioned in the first post but I suppose for the right deal I'd consider anything other than fwd.

On another note, there's another country heard from. How you been?

No worries. I've already found a few in the range I'm looking for. Just nothing I felt like diving on yet.
Figured I'd ask here in case there happened to be some killer deal anyone new of that wasn't advertised. I have what I have cause I scrounge for the right deals, not cause I'm well off lol.

But yeah, I'm doing pretty good myself :)

No thank you. I'd rather lose traction and have the rear end walk around than lose my steering. I never wound up in more snowbanks than the winter I drove a cavalier. I swear my 68 was better in the snow lol.

KLAB 09-28-2010 04:18 PM

true maybe in your case when you lose traction moving but for me i can def feel a difference when you turn the wheel where you wanna go and it pulls it out instead of spin the back end around more. maybe kuz i life in a hilly area my rwd truck used to tend to just stop moving and tires would brake lose and spin the back end out on my, the saturn pulls me up in a straight line even if the tires are spinning like crazy I can still point it in the direction I gotta go. nothing beats 4wd or AWD tho :(

i got a 3/4 ton crew cab chevy 4x4 i'll prob be selling. it just sits on the side of my house. only real problem it has is that its a 454, horrible gas mileage

It would have to be absurdly cheap since the 90 mile roundtrip commute 4 days a week would kill me lol.
Hence my looking for a 4cyl.

Only for the retarded. I will never own another FWD again because I hate how they drive in the snow/bad weather. You lose traction at all and now you can't steer. Snow tires are the key to going in the snow, not which wheels drive the car. AWD/4WD just helps negate the need for snow tires to an extent

That is why my cobalt has Blizzaks on ALL 4 wheels. That car is awesome in the snow.

CamaroRacing12 09-29-2010 06:51 PM

I like FWD in the snow. But yes nothing beats AWD with snow tires

Formula413 09-29-2010 09:44 PM

AWD only helps you get moving, it wont help you turn or stop. To improve all three you need good winter tires. If I had to pick FWD or RWD in the snow I'd pick FWD, just because understeer is not as dangerous as oversteer. But I'd take any vehicle with winter tires over any vehicle with all season tires in the snow.

fwd sucks in the snow all its good for is ebrake slides haha
