Ran with the New 410's

So i ran it last night after doing the rear over with 410's from the 342's and i didnt do better My 60ft dropped to a 1.786 which isnt bad its prob got more in it which will help just its in a 10 bolt with a 6 speed so i dont go to crazy with it. But i figured the new gears would get me to the 11's and doesnt seem possible with this Cam only set up. Maybe some weight reduction? Traction isnt the issue just seems not enough power to do it. I could buy a new throttle body maybe just to add a little more hp. But anyways heres the slips from the Old rear end on the LEFT and the new gears and rear on the RIGHT. Think i can get 11's or is that not going to happen with this set up? Maybe some ideas to get this car going quicker. Video is below also. Thanks
I ran a 12.1 a few weeks back with the stock rear but couldnt find the slip but this is my second best time i ran and they are very close

yeah you will run 11's at NED. i bet the DA last night up that way was over 2500 feet. better air and the car has it. but if your set on running the 11's in the heat. a bit more power or less weight is my suggestion. what do you have for weight reduction now?

Formula413 08-27-2011 01:08 PM

Also 113 mph might not be quite enough for 11s unless you can really launch the balls off of it, the high eleven six speed cars I've seen are usually hitting around 115-117

Ya i was thinking maybe a different throttle body maybe? not sure what to do for some quick power besides NOS, I actually had it full weight with a toolbox and jack spare tire. haha The air in NED is better than lebanon???

Camaro9969 08-27-2011 02:12 PM

I still am surprised it didnt run better with the gears i know it feels better becasue of the 410's but still it launched pretty well at 1.78 thats not bad at all and figured that would be what i needed for a better time not worse. I need to figure out my shift points are. I see on the Dyno sheet the highest torque is at about 4900 rpm so maybe i should shift earlier to keep it falling right at the 5000 mark.
Heres my dyno sheet maybe you guys will see something that i dont haha. My torque just falls off the map after 5000 that kind of sucks

My84Z 08-27-2011 02:52 PM

Where are you shiftung? Gotta keep those rpms up shift at like 6500 your probably shifting slowly and the rpms are dropping off

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-27-2011 03:15 PM

113 trap speed is really only half the story alex. its an indication of power to weight ratio more then anything else. like John sed check your shifts. and lighten her up!! thats what i say and before the seasons over the car will see a high 11!

My84Z 08-27-2011 03:19 PM

Heavy or not the car can't e over 3800 it's not even a vert with his dyno numbers he should be trapping 117 easy. It's a clear ibdication he isn't using the powerband or his car isn't making the power it should. Also get someone to go inside the car and floor it. Then go to the tb and make sure it is at wide open. I had that problem before where the throttle cable had to be adjusted

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-27-2011 03:46 PM

problem with dyno numbers is they are misleading. with a sae correction factor to sea level it shows the car makes XXX amount. now take that car and put it at 2500 feet of elevation. Now it In REALITY makes only YYY amount. see what im saying. i have gain 2 mph from weather. and i havent really raced my car that much yet and have seen it. Tony broke out last year because the da had dropped only 500 feet from one run to the next.

Camaro9969 08-27-2011 04:08 PM

Ya ill lighten it up as much as I can maybe I'll take the seat out but its pretty light. I've been shifting high like 6200 but when it drops its already above 5100 rpms when it goes into the next gear with these 410 gears so when I'm shifting gears maybe I'm out of the torque and should shift earlier. Well ill try again Wed at Lebanon. I want to get up to NED whenever u guys go let me know its a farther drive but ill come out. What you think about a new TB?? Or the ported one good enough?

My84Z 08-27-2011 05:09 PM

Your numbers are fine shift at like 6500 and do u have a shift light

I did the first time i ran but unhooked it i will set it back up next time i run i'll set it for like 6300 and go for it!!!! Also take some weight out of that fat pig

SLP IROC-Z 08-27-2011 06:27 PM

these motors need to be spun real high, i shift mine just shy of the revlimiter every shift and the engines pretty stock. id shift that thing at 6500.

SLP IROC-Z 08-27-2011 06:46 PM

how are you launching the car? i see the 60' is ok but after looking at the 330' numbers it looks like the car might have bogged when the rpms came all the way down.

for instance i have run a quicker ET spinning to a 1.89 60' vs a 1.82 dumping the clutch at 5k and dead hooking because the clutch will slip a little at first and the rpms will slowly fall but they eventually fall to 3500 and the car falls on its face. so even tho the 60' was quicker the 330' and up was slower.

I tried spinning them and the tires grabbing this is my best 330 of the night ill tach it up higher wednesday and see what happens

SLP IROC-Z 08-27-2011 08:55 PM

what are you running for a clutch? you need to work the clutch pedal as long as you dont have a puck style clutch. basically something has to give and its either going to be the clutch or the tires. with drag radials it has to be more clutch than tire, theyre a good tire as long as they are dead hooking but seems like once they start to spin its all over.

fwiw im stepping up to 4.30s in my 99, the 4.11s are a big improvement over 3.42s but still not enough, has to do with the 2.66 1st gear in the trans.

I have a monster stage 3 clutch. i was thinking of doing 430's but figured the 410s are enough. Ill drop some weight see what that does. I want to add some quick power with some bolt ons.

SLP IROC-Z 08-27-2011 10:49 PM

you have the power, id spend money on making it all work going down the track. with that clutch your going to need a bias ply tire, full slick or a dot slick. too much clutch for a drag radial, theres no slip with a clutch like that, hits the tires way to hard.

put the money towards a 9" with 4.30s, a pst driveshaft and hoosier quick time pros. like mike mentiond a while back get an anti roll bar while your at it, a solid 24 or 25mm is a big improvement over the stock 19mm coat hanger. youll want lca reloc brackets as well.

Slowhawk 08-28-2011 04:16 PM

Take the toolbox, spare ect out. Run on a 1/4 tank of gas. Weight makes a huge difference. Also compare da conditions which affects alot.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-28-2011 04:23 PM

^ THANK YOU!!!!

Camaro9969 08-28-2011 06:05 PM

Ya the DA does a huge amount i'll find out what it is for wednesday but so far it looks great so hope the air is nice and i'll remove all the weight i can. What about skinnys in front or is that a waste of money?

SLP IROC-Z 08-28-2011 06:19 PM

see if you make a ton of changes and go back up you wont know what made the car go different. focus on driving technique, its hard but you have to pay attention to whats going on while you go down the track, have someone take video of your runs and use those as a tool. you already mentiond DA, its a good idea to keep track of it each run, i usually write it on each slip.

Camaro9969 08-28-2011 06:43 PM

I have videos of the runs ill just hook up the shift light for like 6300 so i can be more consistent this time to see what happens. Also ill figure out the da for the runs. I will see if i can get a data log for the runs to see whats going on maybe something is up with the car also

SLP IROC-Z 08-28-2011 08:08 PM

post the vids id liketotake alook. shift it at 6500

From what i could tell your shifting seems ok but way to early exhaust barely wakes up then you shift second it was hard to see but don't do your burnouts in the water box do a quick turn of the tires pull forward a couple feet then do a 2nd gear burnout. Other then shifting way too early it looked good though

My84Z 08-28-2011 11:04 PM

Also just wondering vids say cam only? And you said stock tb? Where did you dyno?

i was shifting around 6 grand but maybe the stock tach cant keep up with the gears and i'm shifting wrong. I didnt want to do the burnout out of the box because i didnt want to blow the rear that way haha. But they are very sticky tires. i'll try with the shift light maybe thats the issue. I heard the stock tachs are behind what the RPM is really at

It is a cam only stock heads on it. I ported the TB myself at my old shop. I want to get a different TB just dont know if they are worth the money. I dynoed it at slowhawk and it put down 394rwhp then i did it again at another dyno and it put down 423 with the correct tires on it

Camaro9969 08-29-2011 12:12 AM

Oh i just checked the DA it was 3150 the day i raced

SLP IROC-Z 08-29-2011 12:27 AM

ok just watchd the videos, back in the water and do a quick dump in 2nd to get them wet, pull up out of the water box and do a 2nd gear burnout at 5000 to 5500 rpms for a good 5 seconds then ride it out for a few feet. doing the burnout in the water poses two problems, the tires not drying off completely and the shock load from spinning the tires on wet ground and then hitting dry sticky concrete, this is a sure fired way to grenade a 10 bolt.

i can tell youre shifting way to early just from where you are on the track when you shift.
watch me race the gtp in the end of this video http://youtu.be/oLfJipqLlsI
my engine is 100% stock, and i shift just shy of my 6200 limiter, pay close attention to where each of my shift points are on the track. youre shifting 1-2 right at the 60' mark, thats way before 6k rpm. not only will that hurt your 60' but its going to slow your runs way down. im running a stock tach and no shift light, but after hitting the rev limiter a few times before a shift i got an idea of where my rpms were and were to shift the car at. with a 6500rpm shift point you should be over 100' out before youre into 2nd gear.

Formula413 08-29-2011 12:47 AM

I might come up to LVD Wednesday after work to watch, if I do I'll bring my camera and get some vids

Cool man let me know if u want to come up I think a few of us are meeting at the friendlys in westfield off the Pike around 5

Formula413 08-30-2011 01:43 AM

Just a heads up, LVD got flooded today and may not be ready by Wednesday, make sure you check before heading up

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-30-2011 01:25 PM

I KNEW IT THEY ALWAYS GET FLOODED!!!!

Camaro9969 08-30-2011 03:15 PM

They sure do. That river overflows every year. But i just saw they are planning on opening tomorrow. I dont see how but i guess we will wait and see.

Camaro9969 09-01-2011 02:39 PM

So ran last night used my shift light and was trapping 114 all night did a 12.30 @114 1.89 60 ft my best of the night i ran with someone in the car did a 1.76 60 7.89 1/8th @93mph!!! Had to jam on the brakes and still got kicked out 13.00 @75mph. So if i stayed in it that could of been the best run. Either way the more seat time the better launches I'm getting. I tried dumping it at 5 grand but it spun like crazy and pulled a 2.0.....so i dropped more air out down to 16psi and dumped it pretty hard around 5 it felt much better. I think its got 12.0s in it at best but we will see...... Not sure the MPH was from the air, shift points, taking some weight out, removing AC belt haha, or all together but its closer. haha

ILuvPizzaTimes10 09-01-2011 03:04 PM

Nice! Yeah you should be right around high 11's low 12's with that trap speed. Its all seat time. Good job so far. You will see 11's before the seasons over. Just practice on the street 1-2 shift as fast as you possibly can without breaking anything. Cut down on your time shifting and you should catch it.!
