quick Rookie question
Anyone re-use there oil filters? I have been using mobile 1 oil filters and they are like 13 bucks or something. I happen to see that it says it last 15,000 miles. I have been just changing mine every time i changed the oil, am i wasting money or should i just keep doing what I'm doing? Thanks.

Always change the filter with the oil, I never re-use them and would never tell somebody to.

You reuse a condom after you've nutted in it?

Stop buying extended life filters save $$$ and get the ac delco filter
|
Actually some of the synthetic oils recommend you change the filter before you change the oil. You can test oil but there's no way to know a filter has failed and the internal bypass valve has opened. Once that happens it's not filtering the oil anymore. M1 filters and some of the other premium filters like Bosch and Pureone are very high efficiency (~99%) so they will trap a lot of crud.

I personally run Amsoil filters.... I don't really feel like saving $4 on something that important is a smart idea....
I'm also toying with using Magnetic Drain Plugs as well: Magnetic Drain Plug |

lol thats true in my case, pizza, ben hoe, justin ss....we were saving money but now paying for more in the end lol

I use K&N oil filters
|
AC Delcos are good quality mid grade filters. The high end ones (Bosch, Pureone, K&N) do have some nice features that the mid priced ones don't, like higher efficiency filter media and nitrile gaskets/anti drainback valves. But basically as long as you don't use Fram you're fine.

the funny thing is all the hype and discussions about oil filters..... and only about 40% of the oil is actually filtered. im not speaking of Lsx series motors. because im not sure on there oil passages. but i know that LT1/SBC put the oil filter INLINE with the cam oiling passages and it will not see a lot of oil flow. so your best defense is to change your oil regularly, more so then buying an over priced filter.
