awesome car dude

84ta406 03-15-2010 09:37 PM

Well aside from the 9" and TH400 I've also got a complete -8AN fuel system; all braided lines from tank to carb, got a BG 850 speed demon as well. Got my SFI flexplate, some drag shocks, Permacool Maxi cool trans cooler and fan setup, Mallory 3 port return regulator. UMI TQ arm should be here sometime next week as well.

Heres some pics:

Comp Engineering shocks:

Seem like good shocks but my biggest gripe is they didnt come with the lower nut to mount the bolt to mount to the rearend, had to go to a hardware store and get it.

I also spent some time playing with the MSD Digital 6 plus box and installing it somehwere I can actually use all the controls from. So I mounted it on the side of the center console. I also pulled the stock shifter out and modified the plate that bolts to the floor to accept the Hurst Quarter Stick I have. Yes I know the cars a mess and a mouse was living under my console at one point!

Also picked up some MT ET streets to throw on for a while.

CJaguar265 03-16-2010 01:14 AM

84ta406 03-16-2010 02:43 AM

I prefer cars that can give me a challenge not something built to make 40mpg.

John in RI 03-27-2010 01:16 AM

84ta406 03-29-2010 12:24 AM

With my trip to florida for 2 weeks at the end of May I doubt it since I get back the 30th. Between that and now school I'm broke.

c4boom 03-29-2010 01:16 AM

what you going to school for ????

84ta406 03-29-2010 11:40 AM

Wyotech, Automotive and their High Performance Powertrain class. After that I want to take the Chassis class they have.

84ta406 04-17-2010 10:22 PM

Just about done...

Not too pleased about the carb feed line, all the fittings are -6AN and then the line in between the bowls is a 5/16" line. I looked everywhere and couldnt find a size for the line. Waiting for 2 fittings and then I'm going to use some extra lines and make it a true -6AN line.

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/IMG_9193.jpg

Shifter is in, MSD wired up, I'm making a panel to put where the radio use to be and putting a couple gauges in there along with my switches. Also going to fiberglass the front part so it doesnt look like butt and strengthen it up a bit.

MasterSe7en 04-19-2010 12:00 PM

how come in the pic above u have a red anodized colored carb, but in the pic thats lower u have a different one? which carb is better? im assuming the one u have now

84ta406 04-19-2010 12:20 PM

I own both carbs. The red one is a Quick Fuel Q750 and the other one is a Barry Grant Speed Demon 850. I'll be using the 850 for now while the 750 gets sent out(new boosters). Eventually I want to dyno them against each other.

MasterSe7en 04-19-2010 01:10 PM

ahh i see, ive heard of demons, theyre suppose to be pretty sick, since im a software developer i love EFI, people always call my car Fuel Infected :) , but i love playing with maps so i wouldnt wanna own a carbed motor, but i still love em and know alot about em :drivingwheel:

84ta406 04-19-2010 01:19 PM

Carbs have different "maps" as well except you hafta tune them by hand lol

Demons are ok, I got this one for a really good price so we'll see. Demons had a lot of quality control issues a few years ago. If I had my choice though I would use the Q750, but it needs work.

84ta406 06-04-2010 04:25 AM

What needs to get done:

ATF in trans 12-14qts!!!!
Crossmember/TQ arm from UMI
Install trans cooler and fan.
Pan plug

Finish running master fuel line and bolt in pump
Return fuel line hook up
Tune carb
Charge battery
Add coolant

Rear brake lines, pads, bleed.

Also looking for a 750 cfm holley main body to play with.

bottledbird68 06-07-2010 06:53 AM

So, you're keeping it now I take it?

84ta406 06-07-2010 01:22 PM

I've always wanted to keep it, my dads the one who wanted to put it through the crusher lol

84ta406 06-25-2010 12:23 PM

UMI TH400 crossmember and Energy suspension bushing

84ta406 06-28-2010 02:50 AM

No videos yet since I need to button up a few things but heres the carb that I custom built for myself.

QFT Billet aluminum metering blocks and base plate. Holley fuel bowls with nitrophyl floats(notched rears), QFT .120 needles, Holley 750 main body, rear Holley jet extensions and power valve block.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 07-18-2010 06:24 AM

again? Come On! DRIVE IT!

bottledbird68 07-18-2010 09:29 AM

Right? Now what the hell happened?!?

84ta406 07-18-2010 11:58 AM

Cam swap, the cam that was in there was spec'ed for a 355 and was falling off. It was also spec'ed for a heavy nitrous motor and was running like crap. After talking with a couple builders we agreed that it was the cam after checking numerous other things. The car drove fine but if I layed into it, it wouldnt move for shit.

84ta406 07-28-2010 09:51 PM

Cam bearings are junk. Not bad for 1972 originals.

I have no luck with this fuckin things. Gonna part it out.

Something metal went through/ is in the motor though.

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/IMG_8972.jpg

SLP IROC-Z 07-28-2010 09:55 PM

those scrapes look like they are from the cam gear, either from install or removal of the cam.

84ta406 07-28-2010 09:58 PM

I dunno they werent there before when I put it in, but Steve(Badass355) took the cam out for me so I doubt it but either way theyre junk, lots of other scuffs and stuff on the others.

SLP IROC-Z 07-28-2010 10:05 PM

id prob just say f it and throw a cam in there, maybe its the pics but they dont seem that bad. if copper isnt showin and there not polished in spots id debur those scrapes and put a different cam in. atleast you could enjoy it for the rest of the summer. i remember i putting an LT1 cam in my 305 years ago and caught that bearing with the cam gear and scraped it like that. motor ran great until i tried 20/50 in it and Fd the lower end bearings.

84ta406 07-28-2010 10:10 PM

Yeah been thinking of options, with 10w30 in there I have 60psi cold and goes down to like 50psi hot before.

I just dont want a new cam to go in with tighter clearances and hurt things. I got the cam originally from steve so it was used. The marks feel pretty deep though so I dunno. I could do just the front bearing but I dont want to throw everything else off.

Just not having much luck anymore.

irockidz28 07-29-2010 04:27 AM

wow that suck just one thing after another
