refreshing the top end
 

well! it started with header gaskets because the drivers side was leaking,but we know how that goes:D.disassembling the top end, sending the heads out to have them freshend up,hot tanked,magnafluxed and pressure tested,and new valve seals.think i'm going with cometic head gaskets and ARP head studs. going with percy's multi layer header gaskets,new intake,valley pan,tranny pan and collector gaskets.then it's off to the dyno to have this thing tuned in,Thank god for overtime!

car looks to be in AWESOME SHAPE!!! be carefull with the cometics on and old head gasket surface(the block). i would get the new coated MLS gaskets from Fel-Pro. same technology with a coating for impurities in deck/gead surface. advance actually carries them they are called the Perm-A-Torq head gaskets.

i was looking at those also, i was just reading some reviews online about cometic gaskets and alot of people have sealing issues with them.so going with felpro's

yeah the cometics need a smoother deck surface then a standard gasket. they work GREAT on a new build. I wish i had sed cut the deck for MLS gaskets but i didnt so No Worky For Me!!

heads are off, they are going to the machine shop next week.the #12 1970 ram air 3 heads will be getting a fresh coat of pontiac blue paint from bill hirsch automotive paints.

Damn so they were No BS Ram Air 3 heads!?!?! Awesome! did they stick those on the SD455 or was that the RA4's?

to my knowledge the ram air 3 heads came on the 1970 gto judge and the 1970 trans ams

yeah researched some more. and the info someone told me was Wrong Way Wrong. haha they were a redesigned ram air 4 head. cast #16 like it matters. Either way Good luck on a KILLER motor!! take a look down the valley were the lifter bores are. is there extra webbing in that area?

progress is slow but i got the carb and intake back together.also cleaned and put a coat of wax on the floor pans.i'm working on the 9" now, cleaning it to put a fresh coat of paint on it.

also got the heads back today.they received bronze valve guides,hardened seats,valve seals,3 angle valve job,and of course hot tanked,magged,pressure tested,and skimmed.

and stainless exhaust valves????? haha Looks Good!!! just be sure and check the angle on that intake if the heads were cut more then a few thousandths.

the valves that were already in there are stainless, i told the machine shop the car has less then 1000 miles on the build,so he checked the valves told me they were in perfect condition and we reused them.i'm going to check everything upon reassembly make sure it all lines up.

sweet car is clean as hell! Wish my 2nd gen was that nice, prob gonna junk it!

started laying down the engine enamel from bill hirsch automotive

timing cover and a few other parts off getting powdercoated,prepping block for second coat of paint.

Did timing gear have the nice gear whine. That always sounded cool as hell.

Are you going to redo the entire engine compartment, it looks good.

i have the shaker for it, i just need the blocker kit so i can mount it the intake.
