Well that didnt last long
Well guys I guess some things aren't meant to be. Driving home from work and the motor shot a rod through the oil pan. Didn't even put 10 miles on it. If anyone wants a clean roller I will entertain offers.

Didn't get a chance to beat it at all. Was a little worried about the oil pressure. Cold idle was 40ish. Warm idle was 30 give or take. My wife's Camaro idles at 50 hot

Ouch. I've had those years too. One season I went through 3 motors in my 68, one of which was a fresh rebuild that locked up solid in under a minute of run time. Needless to say I learned to build my own motors after that ;)
Don't sell it, you'll kick yourself later. You own it outright and have a garage. Put it away and cool off for a season. Make a game plan and hit it hard next winter. That's always seemed to work for me over the years every time I get fed up with my 68. You got the wife's car to tool around it. Buff it up and have fun. Worst case "borrow" the nitrous out of yours :D |
Well as of right now the car is for sale. Unless the guy I bought the motor from come through then its going bye bye. I am in worse shape now then when the last motor blew up. This put a huge finacial hole in my pocket.

Although if it blew up that quick it does seem like a build issue. I know parts due fail but typically there's some warranty for complete failure like that without any real abuse or non-typical break in. Sorry to hear it though:sFun_bangdesk: |

32k mile short block out of a Corvette. Stock bottom end.

Whats the bearings look like? Kinda curious. The oil psi is a bit low but Ive never seen a motor go with that pressure still.
I say put a SBC in it lol, cheaper to build. |
FWIW my warm oil pressure at idle with 10w30 is about 20 psi and mine runs like a champ. I can't imagine 40 psi is a problem.

ls1-lt1 ls1 needs a lot more oil pressure at idle then a classic sbc/lt1. oil pump o ring look ok?

Put in a new one at the time of assembly. Haven't even looked at the fucking thing. Just pulled connecting rod out of the oil pan. Might have something coming my way. Need to pull my motor back out first.

I already had the arp crank bolt and flex plate bolts. Adding the rod bolts and head bolts.

Still not sure. We have a couple ideas
1. The rod could of been tweaked from the get go. It did come out of a lingenfelter TT vette with 8lbs of boost. 2. I noticed that when I took off the oil pan a couple of the main bolts seemed loose. Not sure if it was before/after the damage 3. Rod cap possibly loose. Picking up my new motor today!!!:nanawrench: |
Damn too bad. wish you had gone threw and re-torqued/checked every fastener!! ahh well seems like you have been Well taken care of. and this one will last a while!!!!

Nope. Pistons hit. Its OK though instead of the 853 I have the 241 castings which are supposedly better. Kind of sucks because I am out the money for the head work

Not spending that money on a stock head. Plus they only do there own heads now.

well that sucks they only do there own!!! and i kinda see your point. i just didnt know what work you had done IE port work or what not to make it worth it. too bad a good decking couldnt fix them and you could sell em and recoup some cost.

They were decked and cleaned up with a valve job. Two of the chambers took the damage. No biggie. Making good progress. Engine, trans, exhaust is all in
