275-40-17's need advice
 

Buying some new rear tires soon just because i want to, current tires are at about 75% tread left, i want to do a drag radial, i want to do a 315 out back, what complications might i have doing this if any, and what tires do you guys suggest?. Thanks fella's

on your 17x9s the only 315 drag radial that will fit right is a nitto 555r. they are the narrowest 315 out there. any other 315 needs an 11" wheel, rolled lips and maybe some massaging to the wheel wells

If you want something highly streetable, the Nitto 555r's are always a good bet. They give you decent traction and ride pretty well. Sidewalls aren't bad either (hell I use them in autox and seekonk). Will they give you unbelievable traction? No. Will they last as long as a street tire? No. But they make a good all around tire for a streetable drag tire.

Thanks for the input guys, sounds like the Nitto 555R is the way to go! I appreciate the input, ive heard about them but never really had any input on them before.

I wouldn't do the 315 on the stock wheel if you are looking for traction cause the contact pattern will be off with a smaller rim will it work yes. However best of you got a wider
rim.

If you don't have to worry about longevity and just looking for traction I love my 275/40/17 toyo tqs, grip for days. Not awesome in the wet but its manageable, dunno if you DD your car, or whats on it currently for tire.

i DD it yes, its a 10-12mile max round trip, w 4-5miles each way highway driving. I do have a garage w a lift to store it in the winter so im obv not worried about that. I have a 2000 blazer 4x4 that i can use anytime/winters. i was thinking maybe even a 295?

I know my toyos hook and book on unprepped street with no burn out, I have an auto so its slightly different, I think you have a 6speed atleast, but I cant do a burn out anymore unless my foot is on the brake lol

The Nitto 555r's are decent in the rain too btw. I wouldn't go 100 mph in a heavy rainstorm or anything... but they will get you home

Ill be the lone person to say Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's some people love em, some hate em. My dad has only had those on his TA since he bought it and loved em. I thought they gripped great even in the rain.

The 555r's are great tires. The 315/35/17's will fit because Nitto's run small. I've run them on most cars and my TA did 1.52 60's on them at the track a few years ago.

I've been using 555Rs as rear tires for a few years and I can't say enough good things about them. They pretty much dead hook on the street. Tread life is acceptable for what they are and better than any other drag radial. And they drive just like an all season tire in the rain. I was considering trying something like a Falken RT615 for a rear tire next time to get a stiffer sidewall for better handling but I'm not sure if I'll go that route yet. The 555Rs do handle well but I really like to corner hard so a little less flex might suit me better. My only concern is that I would be back to not being able to use all the power.

Air the tires to 36psi. A lot of people use to use them for road racing.

Thankyou very much for the input! it looks like 315/35/17s are what im going to run! I Appreciate all the advice/tips. im gonna order a set this friday, hopefully lol! and my car is a A4. wish it was a 6speed. but cant shift faster then an auto i guess right!

Just for clarification those 1.5's were on a 10.5 or wider rim

I thought about airing them up more but they are prone to wearing in the center and I didn't want to make it worse. I might try that and just live with the increased wear.

I've heard awesome stuff about the GS-D3 tires too. But we're comparing apples to oranges. I'd def recommend the GS-D3 over the 555r if you were looking for a great daily driving tire that has long tread life, excellent rain handling, and ride quality. Hell.. autox guys seem to use these during rain days over any other tire. The GS-D3 isn't going to give as good traction on the dry pavement though as the 555r. I think the Gs-D3 is a little more expensive too

and 32psi in them. So cupping was not a problem. Tried 28psi and it did the same 60'

Of course not with the recomended rim size and recomended psi

they dont fit that bad on a 17x9

Yes the look ok but being alot stiffer then the other 315's it's not "right" so to speak gotta run less pressure to even the wear pattern. We have 315's on a 10.5 and it fits perfect

It's still more tire than the OP needs with his setup. I wouldn't worry about full contact patch.

the 315 on the 17x9 looks like shit...I wouldnt trust it lol

im on my 5th set of nitto's and i love them.... 315's will catch though, they do on mine.
