05 STI
Well since the interest of seeing Klab and me run again each other I guess ill make thread about what I got rid of the WS6 for.
I missed my WRX the second I watched my buddy drive away with it and even driving the WS6 I wanted it back. Car handled awesome and for what it was it surprised a lot of people. So once i put the WS6 up for sale i started searching. I ended up finding a 05 in Marshfield, 1 owner and female driven. Completely stock down to the paper filter with 83k on it. Kicker was when i bought it the husband gave me 8 extra tires with it. He took off the original tires which looked brand new and had them install on what John call gay gold BBS wheels. Night i brought it home. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...pse7df30cc.jpg That week installed a JNA front lip, rally armor mud flaps and a HKS Hi-Power Catback. I had a Invidia 3" catless downpipe that i got off a buddy cheap but waited to get it inspected first even though there wouldnt be a problem if it was on. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps17976ad7.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psdea7c70e.jpg Got it tuned by my buddy Eric Sorenson and at 18psi the stock clutch start slipping. Kinda expected it with the milage on it. Waited till tax season and got a Clutch Master FX300 installed and also had the timing belt and water pump done at the same time since it was getting close to the recommended milage to be changed. I ended up wanting to change the catback cause i loved the Magnaflow I had on my WRX. Sold the HKS and bought the Magnaflow 3" non resinated along with extended hangers to keep it off the bumper along with some Perrin "stiffies" for the wing to keep it from moving around on the highway. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psb9870f19.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps4caa2b14.jpg I did the brakes on it which was the first time doing it with a caliper with pins vs say the prongs you see on single piston calipers. Took over a week to do since the rear caliper needed to be heli coiled. Ended up throwing some Tien S tech springs on it to lower it a bit. People hate thses springs but I love them and done find them to be to low at all. I ordered a Gimmick FMIC and Turboxs RFL BOV next and it wasnt as much of a PITA as everyone said it was. Cutting the bumper up was most PITA part of it all. Installed a Perrin short ram intake, Cobb turbo heat shield, some DEI gold heat tape on the IC piping that sets over the turbo to try and keep the intake temps down some. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps9685b3ad.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps697bf3dd.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psfc04e14c.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps5b1da8de.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps8cb35290.jpg http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psd35447bf.jpg And this is how it sits now http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psd46b0008.jpg Fun in the snow Vid http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps539d7fe5.jpg Launch Control Vid http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...psb2b5b21d.jpg Mods: Invidia V2 Catless DP Magnaflow Catback Perrin Short ram intake Grimmspeed 3 port EBSC Gimmick FMIC FX300 Clutch TMW Short shifter Street tuned by EBS to 22.5psi |
The launch control is slick! Would be a huge improvement I wager lol
Defintely helps the launch with building boost.
Silver> gold otherwise good job bud.

My friend just got an 05 WRX, looks like yours too. He has the STi wing and some "gay gold" rims.
IMO these cars are awesome |
Very gay gold baller status!
Yup. Subies are awesome :)
I'd much prefer driving an sti over a fourth gen too after owning one for a while. |
Nice project thread I didnt even know you had this car till you posted in my thread. I thought you still had the WRX. Nice well executed mods. How much was that FMIC?
I like the gold BBS's, car looks sweet. |
Stupid cheap 385 shipped. Have a buddy who gets a discount on one of the sites. It's a turboxs knock off but somehow mine has a better core than 2 of my buddies with legit turboxs kits.
nice thats a good price. I think a mild mod STi will be my next car for a DD after school.
Not me.. I hated mine. Probably makes a great race car. But I didn't like it as a daily. It's not my style either
I like my buddys 04 wrx, id drive one as a daily in the winter lol
I only drove a 02 wrx and besides the shitty gearing for the highway I'd rock that shit as a daily......... Until i break a shit ton of transmissions lol
ya 5spds are made of glass. Youd probably have a few "cores" laying around. Or youd do a 6spd swap

Nice thread. That car feels way more comfortable sitting in it at dyno day than my camaro. I have always liked WRX's and if i ever bought an import it would be one of those. AWD Launch Control should rip out of the gate.

Which came with 6 speeds? My buddy santas is 6 I like the gearing. Its just the exhaust on the highway, I would prob have a quiet exhaust with a cutout lol
All usdm Sti's had 6spds and I believe the 02/03 Sti's that are only overseas are 5 spds. Matt correct me if I'm wrong. Just going off the top of my head. Drone is kinda inevitable with running Catless and with no res. At 70ish it's at 3k in 6th so it does get kinda loud. I know 04/05 trannys were geared different than the 06/07 ones and I'm sure the 08+ are also different ratios too but I think they all share a 3.90 final drive.
I drove my buddy's. Felt like a mid 90's Jetta. Didn't like the plastic rattle and loose feel for a daily. I prefer quiet and comfortable for a daily.
Yukon or sti. Sti wins the ride battle even being lowered. I feel the ride and the noise is tolerable. I had a Jetta and never again will I buy a vw.
Saturn sl1 5speed. Best DD ever

Only thing with the 6 speed vs 5 speed and gearing is yeah the final drive ratio between the two are different they work out to around the same in the end. 5th in the 5 speed and 6th in the 6 speed are about the same. Only advantage to 6 speed besides strength is the gears are closer together to keep you in the power band more. 6 speeds actually suck for drag racing as unless you have a higher rev limit you run out of gear in fourth and end up shifting with to make the quarter. Or over rev the crap out of fourth. Built 5 speed is the ticket for a subie drag car ;) 6 speed is the road race choice. Gearing wise for a daily they are more or less equal on the highway. |
gay!!!!
^ha gayyyyy hahaha
I was helping my buddy with his 2012 sti the other day. He got an aftermarket tmic because he's gonna turn up the boost to catch up to my 95 lt1. His coupler blew off and it was boost leaking like a mofo. After we fixed it I was ripping around his and my other friends bug eye wrx. Those cars are so fun lol
They really are fun to bomb around in. Especially when you start really throwing them into turns under power :)
I haven't got the tires to squeal in his sti yet, but we hit some corners HARD!! They handle very well.
