69 Camaro -- visiting the rust doctor
I knew the quarter panels were not in great condition, but did not realize how bad they were. The car is at LaBrecque Autocraft now getting the quarter panels and floor panels replaced and then the car will be repainted.
The old panels were made up of 3 or 4 pieces and the bottom was held to the wheel wells with seam sealer. old panels: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-59-42_649.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-59-52_109.jpg the patient: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-00-25_578.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...9-59-25_23.jpg |
Ahyup, I'll be doing pretty much the same thing to mine next winter if all goes as planned. Fun isn't it?
Should be awesome when it's done. |
HA! Not that much fun! Seems like 40 years worth of hacks. I should have checked it much closer when I bought it but it is getting straightened out a little at a time.
Do you have any larger pics of yours posted? |
I do have a few but it's not much to look at right now. Been sitting the past couple seasons.
The day we moved it to our new house a couple months ago: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/c7ddd86b.jpg And another sitting in the old driveway http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...68/chicken.jpg |
Very cool. When you start the body work, hopefully you can take a lot of pictures!
I just noticed you are in Athol. I almost had a job at Starrett about 10 years ago. It seemed like a good company, but very old with a building made around the time of the Civil War. It kind of looks like Starrett buildings in the background of your pic. |
Good eye, they don't "kind of look like" starrets buildings, they are ;).
Actually the ones in that background are LP Athol Corp now. Starret is a little more to the left ;) And I'm planning on starting to re do the chassis in the next week or two. New floors/frame/running gear this year, make the body nice next year. I'll start a build thread as soon as I start tearing into it. |
Well at least you will know it was done right this time. One of the reasons I bought my 67 was because of the new sheet metal.
|
oh yeah that is to be expected!!!!
when i did mine it was a total panel replacement. |
any updates David????
|
Mike Labrecque has the sheet metal - quarters, floor panels, and panel above the trunk are on order. Hopefully it will start going back together soon. I picked up a brake kit to replace the cobbled together one.
