MCACN 2018
I entered the 69Z into the MCACN show a while back it got accepted. MCACN is the Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals held in Rosemont (part of Chicago) Illinois.

I said I was going to stop doing point shows, but I must be a glutton for punishment and it's going to be in a 1000 point class.

I'm hoping the weather will be good in the Chicago area, and so far it looks OK. I will be trailering it out there with Mike Labrecque of Labrecque Autocraft.

One tough thing is finding hotels that have tractor trailer parking. The Comfort Inn in Fremont Ohio has 3 tractor trailer spaces, but I don't know if they reserve them.

So far, my rough draft itinerary is:

Going to Rosemont, IL (not including stops)
9 am Wed Nov 13th - Leaving from West Granby, CT - About 10 hours driving
7 pm Wed Nov 13th - Arriving at Comfort Inn Freemont, Ohio
9 AM Thur Nov 14th Leaving from Freemont, Ohio About 4.5 hours driving

Fri Nov 15th car in place.

The show is:
Sat Nov 17: 9AM-8PM
Sun Nov 18: 9AM-5PM

Going Home (not including stops)
6 pm Sun Nov 18th - Leaving from show About 4.5 hours driving
10:30 PM Sun Nov 18th - Arriving at Comfort Inn Freemont OH
9 AM Mon Mon 19th Leaving from Elyria, OH About 10 hours driving
7 PM Mon Nov 19th Arriving home

I still have to find a hotel that is on the way that has tractor trailer parking.

A hotel that is about 10 hours into the trip.

It looks like there might be snow showers next Thur and Fri in Chicago. Hopefully not.

How did everything go with the show?

Hey Frank....a few hiccups getting into the show with 3 hours in a staging lot waiting to get in, but once the show started it was GREAT! They had probably 15 COPO cars there with COPO camaros, novas and chevelles. You would have loved it. There were so many beautiful cars and it was the greatest car show I have ever been to.

The Z scored great and got a 991 out of 1000. My biggest deduction was the spark plugs. I have 3 sets of original green stripe plugs, but the actinics run better. After the last Camaro Nationals, i put the actinics in and forgot to change them back to the AC delco green stripe plugs. I lost 4 points for that.

The nicest thing was after the show. You can either load up in the convention center or as soon as the show ends, they let people drive out. I was trying to get back to Ohio with a 6 hour drive and I didn't want to wait 3 hours so I drove out to the trailer which was about a mile up the street. As I drove out, there were cop cars everywhere and I got a really cool police escort to the trailer.

The weather was a little rough on the way home. At the top of one of the mountains, there was a lot of ice and accidents everywhere. One of the trailer tires blew out, but we got it fixed pretty quick and I had 2 trailer tire spares.

I'll post up some pics soon.

That's really great to here Dave on the points. From what you are describing about the show it's sounds like a heck of a show. Glad you made it back safe.

Unbelievable show. So many quirky things happened.

A really tall dude from Australia loved the Z. He was in the Queensland Australia Chevrolet club. He came back about 5 times to check out the car. I asked him if he wanted his picture in it and he was thrilled. Getting him in was not so easy. He was so tall that even with the seat all the way back, his knees were 1/2 way up the sides of the steering wheel.

There were 2 older guys that were original owners of first gen Camaros. They argued about EVERYTHING. If you ever saw the two old guys arguing on the Muppet Show, they were like that. Previously, a judge that oversees all the judging said that my heat riser was on backwards. I had been deducted on that before at the Camaro Nationals and I fixed it to what the Camaro Nationals guys said was right. Then these 2 guys came over and started having a huge argument about whether the oil fill should have a baffle on it. I told them about the heat riser and they started arguing about that. Then they went over to where the unrestored Camaros were being judged and started arguing with every judge there, in the middle of an unrestored car being judged, about what was right and what was wrong about the installation orientation of a heat riser. It was AWESOME.
