GRRR miss and part throttle ping
ok I had this issue since last year before putting the car away for winter.
I changed coil, installed new distributor (I think i blew the module when i started car with battery buddy hooked up by mistake). but old one was fine. took out and hooked up vacum gauge. needle fluctuates between 17" and 19". normal is a steady 18". I readjusted the idle mixture but still has same fluctuations and part throttle ping. |
sorry us fuel injection guys know nothing about real motors.
bahahaa |
what is your base timing? whats your total advance. how agressive are the advance springs? id tighten them up so it goes full advance at a higher RPM. also is your vaccum module adjustable? if not it can make a BIG difference on driveability!!
|
25 at idle, and 36 total all in @3300 rpm
no vacum advance. mechanical advance springs are the original oem (never needed to change them) |
With age the spring tension will fall and advance will come on a lot sooner. Get a new set or upgrade the distributor is my best guess.
|
brand new distributor right outta the box.
one thing i did notice was the passenger exhaust avg temp was 260ish. the drivers side was avg 370ish. im thinking i might have some crap in the carb causing the drivers side to starve for fuel causing the ping and higher temp. |
so after observing the coolant flow (cap off) until 160 degrees (thermostat opens) im barely getting any flow through the radiator?
I just installed a victor jr waterpump (high flow) and it seems either the thermostat is bad or the radiator is plugged? time to get it backflushed im thinking. |
well I think i found out what is wrong with my car.
Apparently my brother in law figured he would be helping me by tightening down my loose intake manifold bolts. squeezed the gaskets pretty good. so now i know why my plugs were sooty at tidle (suckin in oil) and pinging under load (huge leak from bottom of the intake) I let him change oil in the vehicles which he has done numerous times. (ill pay him for his work of course) he is from the philippines and as a general laborer etc. he is the best but he doesnt know a wrench from a screwdriver. |
that should make a big difference after thats fixed
|
yeah i hope so!
I was about ready to pull the motor! well at least I got a chance to install this now!!!! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-29254/?rtype=10 |
