biting the bag
So as i found out today one of the tires on the stock wheels has a "faster than slow" leak, so what this does in my mind is force me to get new tires for the 18s lol This however does cause some problems...as I will be dropping $700+ on tires (car also needs an oil change), I wont be able to make this coming track day that I was looking forward to, instead ill be beefing it up for the next track day :) (if someone wants to let me tag along for the ride ill still come and shoot video/photos though)
the real reason for this thread: im trying to decide what tires to go with...I know Joe was looking at some tires and asking for opinions but I personally didnt want to go with any of those. Here are the contenders: NT05 295/35/18s in the rear (10.5" wheel) , with 275/40/18s up front (9.5" wheel) (they didnt have 35s in the 275) or.... while searching it appears i can no longer find ANY 305s that arnt 555Rs basically the reason for the NT05s is the combination between a drag radial and a street tire, they have a 200 tread wear (555Rs have 100, 555s have 300) so at the track they should hook with what power i do make and daily driving during the summer (car will be off the road for the winter) and wont kill my wallet having to replace them. the way i see it if i can get atleast 2-3 seasons out of the NT05s (keep in mind ill see the track twice a year at best) i can justify it. if you guys have any ideas on who makes a 305/18 tire let me know. otherwise ill be ordering the NT05s tomorrow. |
So wait a second cause you have to buy tires u can't spend 50 bucks to go racing??
|
all or nothing thinking FTL. instead of spending 700 dollars have the damn leak fixed for next to nothing.

i need to buy the tires anyway, im using it as an excuse. The tires are beat, and me racing on them isnt going to cut good times anyway so its almost a waste.
and John, I live 2 hours away. a race day for me is AT MINIMUM $110 (gas, race fee, and spectator fee for the woman) Sure i can still go race, but thats not smart money management. why arnt YOU going? cuz you cant afford the time off. same idea I was already sorta upset because on the street with these tires, first and second are useless. On the track i know traction may improve some what, but not much, With my lack of experience ill be cutting 13s with a car thats easy low 12s. just a waste. But like i said i still have the day off and ill absolutely go up, but not interested in emptying my savings making 2-3 passes down the track, and then what if i break something? The tire is getting patched anyway as the car is probably going to sit on these tires during the winter. But ive got some nice wheels sitting that need tire, why the hell not. |
how about the question i originally posted people asking.
does ANYONE know of someone who makes a 305/18 tire? |

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...05&ar=35&rd=18 TAKES 2 SECONDS TO SEARCH ON A TIRE WEB SITE!!!! Are You New? |
thanks for NOT reading my post
im not looking for 100 tread wear tires lol |
NT-05's are not drag radials, or even similar to them. They have good traction but also stiff sidewalls. They are a handling tire and probably going to be too stiff to get a good launch at the track, especially if you are raising the rim size from 17 to 18. They are however fantastic wet/dry tires for the road and I'm sure you will be happy with them. And really you probably aren't going to see a difference between a 295 and 305 tire. I am sure a 295 series NT-05 is going to be a much better tire than a 305 Khumo Ecsta

Or cheap shit new tires up front and good set or DR's out back.
