Header emission test

is it possible to pass the sniffer test with headers on a stock lt1?
i went through hell last year because my car failed emissions (ended up being tested wrong) i just dont want to go through it again

can it pass without the egr, air and cats?? or should i try to leave everything on somehow??

let me know what you think
thanks

i thought that mass only did the plug in test now but you can get it tuned so that it will pass.

Subscribing,

my 95 Z inspection ended in June 08..... Last Winter I converted to a Duel Cat Y-Pipe from a 97 SS and added a set of SPL headers that matched. The car needs to be inspected ( someday ) and I'm curious to see if your will pass.

You should try to leave everything on. I've had several SBC's pass the 'sniffer' test with everything removed - except for a CAT. I have never gotten a cat-less engine to pass a smog test. I've tried slipping a hollowed Cat by places a couple times and they always fail it.

:D

im looking to do a dual cutout right after the headers on the ory, and then have cats somewhere after the Y , but im not sure if everything is gonna fit?? i might just leave all the air, egr and all the o2s on

RI puts it on the sniffer if its OBD1 so i cant tune it to pass (i wish i could)

if you have a catted y and the cats are close enough to get some heat in them you should be ok as long as you get it tuned for the long tubes if it flunks at first

who sells a y pipe with all the emission stuff??

c4boom 11-30-2009 05:06 AM

most of the time its the same company as the header manufacture

OK well a 1995 vehicle cant be plugged in and regardless if the engine light is on or not they cant fail you IF you have all the required emissions equipment and thats if you goto a douche. But if you goto a guy that will really just check safety(wich you should do!!!!) then you'll be fine. i have NUTHING emissions related on my car ORY headers and a loud ass cat back. i passed and i had bad ball joints. guy let me slide cuz he knew i was gunna run right out and fix em. i HATE driving with bad front end pieces! So id make sure all your safety shit is good. ebrake lights horn wipers and front end. and just go to a guy whos decent and your good.

i think i got the y pipe all figured out, i thought that the o2 bungs were in the y pipe when they are on the headers, so thats figured out,

now if i can just find someplace to put a cat,
pizza did u have a cat when u tested?

they way they do it now is they plug into the OBDII port and it scans thru the computer so it comes down to as long as you dont have any check engine codes and you dont go to a guy that is going to go thru and check you emissions stuff your fine...1995 and older are exempt from emission testing
