am i in the wrong here?

So when we decided both of us were going to purchase cars last week we naturally went out on our all out craigslist run and both found the cars that me and the old man wanted. We went and checked mine and then we tried to get a hold of the kid for his... so the list below explains how it went with my dads original attempt of purchase...

1) Emailed the kid assured him i wasn't a dealer and what not and left a number.

2) Kid texts back and says that he can only meet at a school down the street from his house to show the car..... (sketch, right?)

3) We show up at the school thinking what the hell is the kid up too and he's not answering his phone, yet everytime i CALL he TEXTS back that he's on his way, we waited for damn near 30 mins for the kid to come from a mile down the road....

4) The car had a cracked dash and a slammed front bumper. My old man wasn't too concerned with the exterior because he expected the car from its age to need a paint job, but none of these things were listed on craigslist, we let it slide and didn't give him any grief about it.... (he's a clean guy, if he does something he does it right and wants it to look right so he was planning on having in painted and the dents removed before he even went to see the car in person)

5) We set up the date for the next week, as in this past friday (yesterday). He didn't respond to my texts until last night about 8 pm after i had been calling him about 3 times during friday. I'm not normally a psycho like that but when it comes to business especially when i'm trying to help out family and friends I want it to go smoothly, hence why i was dialing him a bunch, plus my dad REALLY wanted his car. Anyway, we let that slide because we both go out of work late and had to drive from Boston and Framingham to the cape so we didn't make it to the bank to get the money for the agreed price.

6) I texted him this morning as he had instructed me to because the night before (friday) he said that he may or may not be working and he would let me know when I texted him AT THE TIME HE TOLD ME TO, 10AM. He never responded to my texts so we thought he got cold feet and didn't want sell the car. We found another one which was a WAY better deal and the car condition didn't even compare. My dad purchased that vehicle and was extremely happy with his buy.

7) I text the kid at 8 oclock and tell him sorry but we find another car.... His response AT EFFIN 10 PM WAS "Wow. Thats kinda dick..."

Did we do anything wrong here is the kid a fuckin douche? I'm probably just venting here but really what the shit is that... No skin of our backs we got what we wanted in the end anyhow but the kids response was a bit ridiculous right? :ahhhhhhh:

What would you guys have done in the situation? Are these assjacks on facebook really becoming more and more retarded...

I dunno cause when it comes to buying a car if i look at it i bring cash if i like it i make an offer and buy that shit. I don't play games.

nope. if he really wanted to sell the car then he should have been in it for the sale. he obviously has more important things to worry about. You found what you were looking for and were a smart buyer his loss is your gain and it sounds like the one you ended up with needs less attention..

I agree with 84z, but that's def a dick move by the seller. I prob would've bothered after the first call wasn't answered. I don't see that you did anything wrong.

Agreed' If I want something bad enough, I bring cash and make a offer right then. Thats how I do it with all my parts.

Kid was just a huge douche nozzle, after day one of running around with him i would have told him forget it, totally unacceptable way of handling business on the kids part.

I agree with you guys a hundred percent. My thought process was that it was a Sunday so we couldn't go get the cash out on that day and I wanted to express our sincere interest in the car so he could take it off Craigslist. I texted him numerous times over the week to make sure he knew we were still buying his car and not dicking him around. I normally do business cash in hand that day because its also a negotiation tactic the way I see it... It's easier the get the price down to a reasonable number when I have the cash to flash right then and there.

Def not in the wrong...if he really wanted to do the deal he would have made more of an effort to get it done and answer ur calls...def shouldn't play games like that I would have bailed on him too especially after finding a better offer

Haha sucks for him. Kids a douche. Should have brought cash if you were serious regaurdless though. So I say he semiiii had a point. But him blowing you off and not answering I wouldn't have bothered in the first place.
