No luck whatsoever....
with mere days left before my sister in-law squeaks out our newest family member my brother calls me with a question. comes over and I here it.....
told him to change the oil (reason he was coming over) and it sounds a little better, but this is what we hear. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...h_M4V00626.jpg |
hard to hear but I think I hear a RAP RAP sound?
not good! might be a main bearing! |
That does sound like something in the lower end. What did he do to it this time? lol
|
Just a fyi check your exhaust manifold gaskets. Made that mistake once before!!!
|
That doesn't sound good how is oil pressure? Did he change the oil regularly?
|
Yeah everything's tight as far as gaskets, oil pressure was ok at this point he had just started it after oil change in this vid.
It was another 98 motor so I feared this would happen, just not this soon. He has only driven it normally back and forth to work, made the quabbin cruise with us and went down to north Carolina back in Feb. It's been running fine, until the other night. We're going camping in VT next weekend and this just makes us change plans a bit. Lucky for him I just got the truck so he'll have something to drive. I'll be doing more hunting for a motor so if anyone knows someone with something let me know. This time he's not buying a motor without me. |
I meamt if he has been changing the oil normaly what oil is he using? Very strange to have two motors do the same thing in short times. I would lean towards something he is doing like not changing oil or not watching the oil level and it getting low eithout him knowing as ls1's can consume oil.
|
No he's been changing it with nothing but Mobil 1. All he ever uses, changes it at my house every time he does.
|
I think John was getting at how often does he change his oil. How low does the lvl get when or if he checks his oil.
|
ok without reading into it I did say he's been changing it but if will help clarify when one changes oil it's been after 250miles, 1000miles, then 2500-3000 miles since this motor has been in. so at least 4times in the last 6 months. has been holding pressure steadily.
it sounds like the typical 98' LS1 issue he had with the last motor only it hasn't let go yet. I'm sure if he continues to drive it, it'll blow up. |
