Limerock - Concours and Gathering of the Marques - Sunday, Sept. 6

Gathering of the Marques
The Sunday in the Park Concours and Gathering of the Marques is on the Sunday – this year, September 6 – between the two racing days of each year's Labor Day weekend Historic Festival. No other event in the U.S. combines a first-class concours with quality vintage competition all on the same property, all on the same weekend. Sunday in the Park is now recognized as a truly significant date on the collector-car calendar.

Sunday in the Park is comprised of two features; nearly 300 outstanding entries are on display on Sam Posey Straight in the Concours d’ Elegance, with an additional 800+ cars celebrating the event around the rest of the 1.5 mile track in the Gathering of the Marques enthusiast meet.

Gathering of the Marques is incredibly diverse; literally hundreds of cars lining the track, grouped by make, model or country of origin. You'll see huge displays of Shelbys and BMWs and Corvettes and Jaguars and MGs... Astons, Rolls and Loti... Porsches, Peugeots and Panteras... Volvos and Saabs, Minis, Mercurys, Mercedes and Mopars, Fiats and Lambos. If it's an interesting and fun car, you can be sure their owners find their way to Lime Rock Park to park next to their brethren. In other words, if someone loves their car, you can be sure it'll here.

To participate in the Gathering of the Marques enthusiast meet with your car, each person attending needs to purchase an admission ticket, and can be found by clicking here. (link below)

And as a blast from the past - My parents were good friends with Mike O'Brien - he used to have an autobody shop in Collinsville in the old Collins Company - Since we lived right there I used to drool over the cars he would have hiding in there. I wonder if he still has his 55 Chevy?

Congrats on the Award!!

Thanks! Mike got an award for one of his cars at this past show.

There is another Limerock car show on Sunday September 6th. I'm planning on bringing the Z.

I believe that all cars are welcome, but the admission (I believe both for spectators and to bring a car) is on the steeper side at $25.

If you want to go, info is here:

It should be a good show. Jeff68 is bringing his restored L30/M20 68 Camaro.

Although I prefer F-bodies, there is also going to be pretty cool Mercedes there.

It looks like a car that Dracula would drive.

1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK "Count Trossi"
The supercharged 7.1-liter straight-6 is unique in that it's naturally aspirated at small throttle openings. Floor the throttle, though, and rods and flaps move to engage the supercharger. Those of us who have ridden alongside an SSK when it goes on the blower will attest to the fact its howl is more than a little startling.

At the 1993 Pebble Beach Concours the SSK came away with the top prize, Best of Show, then did the same at the 2007 Villa d'Este Concours in Italy.

The historic races were pretty cool at Lime Rock Park today. The weather was nice too.

I thought my 13 year old kid would want to go after about an hour, but even after 7 hours he didn't want to leave.

That looks pretty cool. I've only been to Limerock once, I need to go again someday.

I always have a great time at the races there.

Today was the Concours and Gathering of the Marques show.

Jeff68 and I both had our Camaros in the Concours part of the show. There were 15 cars in our class, which was American Muscle 1955 to 1980.

An unrestored 20,000 mile 1967 Pontiac GTO got first, the Z got second and Jeff68's L30/M20 got third.

Ralph Lauren's Count Trossi car got Best In Show.

It was a good day.

There were 7 cars restored by Labrecque Autocraft at the show. 2 left near the end of the show but we took pictures of the remaining 5.
