Haha this is exactly what happened to my buddy and I, we picked an old M52A2 (basically a deuce and a half except bigger springs and axles) the throttle was gummed up at WOT, luckily, we were smart enough to have a piece of plywood right next to us in case this did happen. Which it did haha, so I covered the intake with the plywood, then it died. But it surprises me that these old diesels fire right up after sitting for probably 40 years. All we had to do was put new diesel fuel in it, new fuel filters, and get new batteries, and she fired right up haha.

Heres an actual video of the truck, Idk if the link will work or not since its on my facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=...type=3&theater
