It's always the opti!!!!!

Pulled the water pump off on the Camaro so we could pull the cap off to take a look see and here's the view that greeted us.
Tried cleaning up the terminals but now I runs even worse so I guess I'm gonna order up the replacement msd cap and rotor this week, tear it all apart, and hope this time finally solves it.
I'm thinking it will cause we're just about to the point where we're thinking we may as well keep the car. As soon as we decide not to let it go I'm thinking it'll run mint lol.

Umm, we probably put maybe 10-12,000 miles on it plus whatever pizza put on while it was on his car. I never opened it up when we got it. I'm thinking though that in the torrential downpour that started the whole issue water somehow found its way in there.

Found a tiny bit of oil in it too so I'm thinking I'm going to pull an reseal the timing cover at the same time.
Then if that works I think I'm going to go kick the shit out of it at the track rental the 14th.

My opti to timing cover seal was good. If oil is getting in it I'm betting the o-rings on the opti input shaft are bad replace those! Oil goes down the shaft and comes out on the sensor wheel.

all those orings do is keep the opti centered. how many times do i have to tell you! oil that geting to these it always coming from either the intake front "chine" wall. or the oil pump drive shaft seals. and i put i think 1500 miles on that opti before i sold it to you! i bet it was the rain bad winter we had and letting it sit. only times ive had issues with optis is wen the car sits for a LONG time with out being started. Good Luck! and make sure the new cap you get fits YOUR Opti. yours is now different with the extra bolt up top.

hmm, I think my seals let oil by and down the shaft hole. It came out inside the opti and flung off the wheel.

Pizza whats a "LONG" time consist of?

and I also caked it up with sealant around the whole thing when I re-assembled it haha.

Yeah I'm guessing it got wet from the torrential downpour I drove it home in. That plus sitting. And yup, I'm gonna order the proper msd cap/rotor for the msd opti from summit.

Makes me wonder what mine looks like at 160k...I'm pretty sure its the original lol
