Default My awesome craigslist find of the month #2:

First find was the Saturn for $900. Then there's this: I picked up this set of factory service manuals for 1995 Camaro/Firebird for $50 today and a trip to Rochester Nh and back. SICK FIND!!!! I have been looking for these since I got my car almost two years ago, and prices are at least triple on ebay and can't find them anywhere. Fuck yeah! Adding these to my bible collection.

damn nice dude, but I dont' ever consider a Saturn a "find" unless you are being paid to take it to a junk yard

I consider it a find because for $900 I got a 2000 Saturn with no rot or body damage, no problems needed only a wheel bearing and a few tune ups, gets 30mpg, and IS MORE RELIABLE THAN OUR CAMARO'S, 150k and goinggggg So with still only about $1100 into it its a pretty damn good find because its been getting me to work and school and everywhere economically while my Camaro is warm and cozy

the problems being that it is only in a way "more reliable" than our camaros. The timing belt have a tendency of breaking for no apparent reason and in doing so destroying the heads (happened to my moms car), the calilpers have this funny thing of just freezing up at random, sometimes so much that it boils the brake fluid and all sorts-a-good shtuff happens (happened to two of my friend's cars). They're transmissions...well they just suck in every way possible, like they will get stuck in gears for prolonged periods of time, like to slip and also just blow. The headlights have some of the most uneven lighting I've ever seen in a car. If you get in crash or fender bender for that matter, good luck, cause your driving something with about the same amount of metal in it as a tin can. The valves like to stick all the time. If your gas cap isn't on "just right", the car will start to buck for some reason and you need to get out, undo it, redo and pray the car likes how you put it on. Oh, and their PCM has this "advanced" feature where it likes to make your car decelerate as you are trying to enter a highway sometimes. The ignition switches have this funny thing about the cold, they don't like to work in it sometimes. Oooo, here is my favorite, somtimes the motor fucks up when you try to brake while exiting the highway, and it revs to redline, anf yd when you tap the brakes it locks them, sometimes braking a rotor and you of you go into the woods! Cool huh?! Other than that though, they are very reliable and all over "awesome" cars. You want to some more? Cause I have a whole slew of these little buggars!

LIE! There is no timing belt GOOBER!!!! Its a timing chain motor, and thats why they don't break after 100k like Hondas. LEGENDARY FAIL! Idk what the fuck was wrong with your moms car but it sounds like it was either a huge toilet or its a heap of bullshit. The AUTOMATIC transmissions suck, I know this because my sister has a 99 and at 90k a shaft walked over within the trans and wore a hole thru the aluminum case, so the auto's do suck, but thats why I got a 5 speed because they don't have that problem. The gas cap thing you are talking about is an evap leak problem, its not the way the gas cap is put on it is when it isnt sealing right, you just need to either get a new filler neck or gas cap, or track down the evap leak somewhere, I actually have an evap leak code in my car (only code showing by the way at 150k) and I get no "buck" lol it doesn't effect anything. Your mom probably had a bad starter when it didnt start in the cold, my sister had that same problem and a new starter fixed it. The motor revving to redline isnt the motor fucking up it is the trans, and my brakes are fine lol. The lighting on my Saturn COMPLETELY OWNS the lighting on my LT1 Camaro, it is like a blessing lol.

They are just about as safe as our Camaro's too, they have a pretty strong steel chassis, you think its made entirely of plastic for some reason... Just the body panels that cover the chassis are fiberglass. So they are pretty cheap to fix too, just buy a new fiberglass skin and straighten out the skeleton under it and put the new panel one

So in conclusion, your moms car was completely fucked and that's unfortunate that all that happened but it doesn't mean Saturn's are un roadworthy from the factory, come on you sound silly saying all this. I'm guessing the trans went, she didn't care/notice and just kept driving on it till it fell apart. Sounds like lack of maintenance to me, somebody maintained my car and my sisters which probably explains why ours are still running and very reliable and cheap with over 150k on each.

Saturn's FTW.
