Pics of this Saturday's dissection:

I took apart my opti, cleaned the small amount of oil in it. swapped the optical sensor with that of my spare working opti, and put it all back together cleaned. it started. then turned off and no start again.

No leak on the timing cover to the opti

I replaced these rubber o-rings on the opti shaft, as the factory service manual says to do.

Only source of leaky oil on the front cover, the water pump drive seal out the timing cover. I think small amounts land on the opti and seep their way inside. BTW the opti isn't a perfectly sealed device...

Common rotor wear. (spark is not the issue anyways, just a cool pic)

Notice lack of oil, not what I was expecting...

When I saw this, I shit bricks. This HAD to be it. Oil on the optical sensor.

Some splatter. Maybe it leaked a little through the shaft? But there was no oil around the seal.

I didn't bother to clean this. I knew the optical sensor worked in my test unit.

So we swapped em

Cleaned everything

I have read something tonight, that leads me to go test wire B3 out of the PCM tomorrow. My brain is packed full with circuitry of this car, what goes where what does what figuring the exact algorithm process that takes place when the car is started, along with all my strengths of materials studies and labs, and BS sociology work. My head is going to pop time for sleep.

I already tried this^ Cleaned it well and also tried swapping 2 other non oily harnesses I have, no effect. So last nigh I unplugged the opti at the manifold (up top connector) and plugged it back in with the key on. I heard all kinds of shit make noise. Beeps clicks relays on/off and the pump. Strange, I think it juiced the injectos when I did this because after that I got a sputter on start. Plugged it in and out a few times and it started... I need to borrow a noid light again today and see whats goig on.

That makes it sound like a bad wire in the whole opti harness, thats the first thing I thought anyway.
