I haven't read through this whole thread, but did AMD ever go through with their own version of Hyper threading? That's one reason I thought about trying an i7. But the hardware is double the price over an AMD rig. AMD was rumored to do their own version of it with the "Bulldozer" Platform 6 core. AMD can't really keep up as far as most bench scores, so i think they've just been adding cores to compensate.
Go SSD RAID and never look back! You LOOK at that thing crooked and it loads something INSTANTLY. Boot time goes from a minute to about 20 seconds. And I mean from button pressed to game loaded in ~30 seconds. Add an OC quad core and holy hell!

i went back to a single Sata300 500Gig drive for now. im still on the stock heat sink so only bumped the cpu about 200mhz and uped the voltage i think about .2 volts. all done by my mother boards Auto over clock Vpu chip. Shit Really kicks ass. i can go more!! but not on the stock cooling. the temps hit about 120 while under heavy loads. wich is still WELL under AMD's recommended 195* limits.

Lapped the CPU/Cooler?? You'd be surprised how uneven the AMD chips are. (forgot what they call the metal piece) You can build a liquid setup for pretty cheap. http://www.petrastechshop.com/watercooling.html . D-Tek Fusion blocks and Swiftech pump with XSPC pump top and Res. That pump top helps the flow a LOT.
But come to think of it, 120* F (F?) is only 48.8888888888888888888* c so that's still pretty dam good! And the stock AMD coolers actually work pretty frickin good! Juice it up, run a burn test on it and see what it does. Up the multiplier until it becomes unstable, then juice up the voltage if you need to. You can find the ceiling of the stock voltage real easy. I think i got my stock Phenom II cooler to around 3.4 gigs before I got rid of the dust pumps and went to a liquid setup.

^ Oh, Front side is easy then. Just run intel burn test between runs to check for stability. IBT > Prime, IMO. Quicker and the same test.
I feel like fucking with my rig again.. But it's a depressing mess of dust in the basement. HAD it covered and messed with it, then uncovered it and used it and just never covered it again. Want a new case and a bigger Rad.......... and another 4870.. lol
