I think I'm the only one on here really with a built TH400 aside from maybe Slowhawk. Best bet is to find a core and call this guy:
Gregoire Racing Transmissions/Rons Auto. 640 Worcester St. Southbridge Ma. (978) 764-3542 Ron Gregoire

my uncle has 3 sitting behind his garage but not built. theres someone who will build one to hold 1000 hp for 1240 i just need more than that for a conversion.

Get a TH400 done and use a JW ultrabell, TH400 Swap x member and a longer Driveshaft. Also I suggest a Hurst Quarterstick.

Aside from having OD, how is it way better? I'm not looking for a debate just want your opinion

i think doing a 2004r is a way better idea because of the overdrive and the fact that they can be built to handle tremendous power.

I know a lot of people have been doing 4L80's as of late since some of the TH400 parts transfer over etc. Thats what I was thinking of doing.

To put it in perspective. with proper tuning the 4L80E will handle almost 100hp as it sits stock. Sam is using one as well as don used one in his 6500 pound turbo avalanche. just some food for thought. But if this is Not going to be a driver then get a th400. they are just really sloppy for a street car tranny after they get stalled way up and built. could be me?? and i think the programmable shift points and far superior design of the modern tranny far out weigh the cheap and strong th400.

4500 stall in mine felt almost stock to me. The biggest thing is to get a good QUALITY converter.
For just drag racing and some street use a TH400 will be fine, but if you plan on highway driving, I would really look into the 4L80. I'll sell the TH400 in my car, 1400obo
