Default Z06 blown up with 891 miles

Yup, someone blew up an LT4 with less than 1K on it

It's not readily apparent why it blew up - Doesn't appear like the owner was beating on it - out just putting on the recommended break in mileage prior to truly romping on it.

Either way it's good to see GM replacing it under warranty and also sending it off to take a look at what failed.

3500rpm pull to redline with under 1000 miles. All set. There might have been something wrong with the motor but that didnt help.

Yeah I think maybe a little of both. Since when is tapping the redline with less than 1K on the motor proper break in procedure?

if that is what caused the failure then it was a defective part. shoddy GM engineering yet again. But if a motor shop can build a motor with zero miles on it. then pop it on the dyno for a few part throttle pulls. then go wot to redline and it doesnt blow up........ break in.... no.

Proper break in? They are already run before you get them. I always recommend beating it good once up to temp out of the lot.

Long term affects- A well seated motor with no oil consumption issue's. Long life out of motor. This is from years of seeing these motor's. Dynoing them ect. I always ask how they were broken in. The better cars are beat off the lot.

As for this blowing up. Doesn't surprise me in the least. The C7 we built had the worst spec'd GM motor I've ever seen. Cylinders out of round and machined wrong, pistons are the cheapest gm ever used- ours cracked apart, tune- most knock I've ever seen out of a stock car. Oil consumption was real bad too from ring flutter.

So, I agree with Pizza. Even our builds get WOT pulls within 20 miles on the motors.

If this really is indicative of the quality of the C7s it's too bad, cause they are some of the nastiest looking vettes ever built.

Could be just one issue with one motor. Hell everyone is so quick to jump on GM, How about Porsche having to replace the rod bolts in every GT3
