Got a New Toy for Christmas
Ended up picking this up yesterday as a little late christmas gift.
The Machine Lincoln Electric 175 weld pack 230v Got it for 350$ on craigslist. not a scratch on the machine in fact its never even been used, the plastic was still on it when I got it Bunch of messing around Back side These were the first 2 welds I made with the shielding gas and solid wire. I was pretty happy with them seeing as I've never touched a welder in my life. I know this looks like buger snot but I'm proud of it because I tried to weld 2 tubes together last night with flux core and unless they were literally touching I couldent build up and material to make up the gap between the 2 tubes where they dont fit perfectly. There was actually a 1/4" gap between the material at this point and I actually was able to move the puddle around and do a zig zag/ upside down u motion to build up material between the tubes and bridge the gap. Not the prettiest but remember I was welding over the crappy flux snot bubbles from last night. This made me very happy. I could actually use a weld like this for exhaust work.Although its a bit ugly. The 10/3 extension cord I made running from the dyrer room. Looks great THe solid core wire is a shit load nicer no smoke and less spatter but as you can see still a bit. EDIT: Started welding fluxcore first, and then when I switched to solidcore and sheilding gas I forgot to change the polarity which is why I was still getting spatter and not the penetration I wanted. Now that its correct and I've gotten closer to the material the welds have more penetration and are flatter/wider. Much much better welds to come. I think I'm starting to figure it out a bit. |

on most of those your running a bit too hot you need to back your heat off and slow it down a bit. looking good though have to start some whrere.

The gas helps ALOT. I have a 110 mig no gas and it uses fluxcore, very messy and hard to get anything looking good IMO. We have 220 with gas at work and the thing is like a dream.

Some more pics
The woman got me these. They seem to work pretty well I think I'm gettin a bit better The one in the middle towards the bottom I think are the best. I was trying to immitate the look of tig welding. I was also trying out a bunch of different motions here and had some more feeding issues so still fighting that but I'm MUCH better at fixing it now so not really too much of a bother as before. |

yeah change the contact tip and spray it down with some good anti spatter spray will help a ton with that. and try turning up your feed a little bit. and back off the locking nut that holds the 2 wheels together. it can cause a flat spot on the wire and cause it to catch the tip or the shielding on the way up. looks like you doing good so far!! keep it up!!

Gettin better. This is my third day welding and I decided to weld some 16 ga tubing to 1/8" plate steel. Also fixed the burnback issue and most of the general issues I was having. The feedwheel was loose once I noticed that everything was gravy again.
I wouldent be ashamed to have welds like these on some turbo manifolds under the hood. 5 minutes with a flap wheel would make them look even better, and a bit more control on my part could deff get me a little closer to the stack of dimes look, not really and deff no tig welds but I'm happy with them for now. Looking for feedback though. I know theres assloads of room to improve. |
