People complain about 10 bolts because they mod the shit out of their cars (except the rear), put sticky tires on them, take them to the drag strip and launch the balls off of them and break the rear. The 10 bolt is fine for the car as GM built it. Do people still break them with stock power? Sure, it happens, but lots of stuff will break if you beat on any car hard enough. People don't upgrade their rears when their mods warrant it because they just spent $3-4K on heads/cam/bolt ons and they don't want to spend another $2K on the nine inch that they badly need. That's not the 10 bolt's fault.

every time i hear someone say to put a 9 inch in I laugh. when you break a 10 bolt get a 9" imo. its like when an LT1 doesn't start everyone says LS1 swap or EFI connections swap.

i think tony is a good example of why 10 bolts are ok for automatic cars. 6 speed is a different story

I think what really saves Tony's car is that it weighs about as much as a box of napkins. His setup and a full weight car would probably break something. It may be an auto but an SS3600 isn't exactly gentle on the drivetrain.

Sam's car ran on a 10 bolt for a little and i dont remember it breaking. Theres also Meg with a 10 bolt still to. Both cars are turboed autos. If you have a 6spd car and plan on modding it and or racing it at the strip you should start looking into a rear. Youre gonna be on either DRs or Slicks and its only a matter of time before it goes boom. So a auto car with bolt ons or even a heads cam car i wouldnt be to worried about it.

so if im planning a little 100shot, cam, retainers, lifters and a full edit, some drag radials this winter...i also have a fully built auto going in it, going to do a yank 36 or 3800 stall as well..should i bother worrying about the rear end or should i do some 3:42 or 3:73 to the stock 10bolt? car is just about to hit 107k.

Regardless if some people get lucky with a 10 bolt, they still suck at anything more than stock power. Why couldnt gm put a good rear in like ford did with the 8.8s
