Headlight gear swap! DONE!
Just Did the headlight gear swap on my 02 fire-chicken. I went with the annodized aluminum gears from Rodney dickman dot com. Both gears and steel t-braces shipped for $86. I would've done pictures and whatnot but it is already beat to death on the web. (god bless the internet search engine). Took most of the day. But I work methodically and take lots of breaks. Real straightforward. I found it easiest to take the headlight buckets completely out for better access to the motors (two t-30 bolts each on top) Everything else was exactly like in instructions. Minimal tools needed. The gears came with new grease and epoxy but I opted to use white lithium grease instead just because I had it laying around. You wouldn't believe the $hit that came out of
The inside of the motors. I used compressed air and carb cleaner to clean the pi$$ ot of it before re assembly. this video here was real helpful. During the whole job I drank a two liter of mountain dew to the head. FYI. |
