Accord or Camry is a greaat larger sedan. For smaller efficient car I suggest the Saturn SL1 because they are very reliable and cheap and good gas mileage.

Domestics like the Dodge Caliper, Chevy Cobalt and PT cruiser do not hold value well and can be bought late model for 5k. Look at Pontiac too, even though parts are still available public perception has pushed the values way down.

She went and looked at a Buick LeCerne? No clue how to spell it. Listed at a dealer for 6k, has 80k, 2006 model. She says its nice but i know nothing about the newer Buicks so im going to have to do a little homework on it

Volvo 850 or S70 are awesome I still miss mine.
28 MPG leather heated seats You just need to make sure you keep on regular maintenance and timing belts and they go for over 300k miles. I honestly might get another one.

+1 on the Saturn. My 97 SW2 was great lasted 212,000 miles always got 30mpg no matter how much I beat on it. at 212,000 finally the transmission went so I bought a 2014 Volkswagen Golf TDI.
If bigger is key. go with a late 90's early 2000's Camry or Accord. Cannot lose with one of those.
