Oil Question
Alright the previous owner and I have always used Mobil1 5w30, recently I have been noticing a little more oil consumption, and its burning some oil in the higher rpms. I've read that Mobil1 5w30 is thinner than other 30 weights. I've read good things about German Castrol 0w-30. Just curious and looking for some opinions of what you guys think I should use and hopefully Don will chime in. Oh and the car is a 2000 z28 with just a lid, full exhaust, and dyno tune. Thanks in advance guys!

i strongly dissagree with the castrol 0w30 in our climate. Again thats ME talking and My opinion only. But i would run 10w 30. it should take care of SOME of the ticks with these motors as well. and try not to think of it as weight, but as viscosity. the higher the number the MORE viscous the fluid.
http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/ so in this article. 0w Isnt a bad idea. it FLOWS better at colder temps(IE) colder engine. but to my experience it doesn't LUBRICATE as well at that grade. again my opinion Really and choose what you want. and i would stop using mobil 1. they have downgraded to a tier 3 oil, castrol is still a tier 1 last i checked.

I def. plan on stopping using the mobil1. I'm definitely thinking about using a Castrol synthetic.

always had stable oil pressures with castrol. other manufacturers like mobil 1 no. warm idle psi would drop quite a bit. again LT1 so different pump.

I've used nothing but Castrol 10w-30 and have had no problems.

Castrol Syntec 0W30 is actually a pretty thick oil despite it's rated viscosity. I think I have a chart saved on my computer that shows the actual viscosity of many different brands and weights of oil, I'll look for it when I get home. People who have run the German Castrol in LS1s and had it analyzed have had very good results. If you want more in depth info on oil check out bobistheoilguy.com

5w30 or 10w30. i doubt your tolerances are as loose as mine and i run 5w30
