What are you using for tires...
Hey guys, that time of year for me to buy some new tires. Just wondering what you guys are using, what you like or hate about them, etc. Do they wear out too fast, can't hold traction in wet weather and so on.
Thanks!

As a daily driving tire, I loved the Nitto 555 street tires (not the drag radials). Out of like 5-6 years the tread never wore down much on me. I even used them for autocrossing for about 2 years and 16 events. They were comfortable and not a noisy tire. They cut through big puddles during downpours with ease. I would get these again in a heartbeat.
I would probably not use them in the snow though. Also don't expect to win autox events with them. I'd recommend a NT-05 for that if you were doing some street tire classes. |

Yeah, I do a lot of driving and need a good tire that's not going to be a one year deal and have to replace by years end. Wanting to stay away from Goodyears, too soft of a compound. Was looking at the nitto's as a possibility as well as some Yokohama or Toyo's. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good product, especially when it will save some coin in the long run.

I will second the Nitto 555s, they are a great tire for the price. They corner very well and can handle rain no problem. I run them for front tires and tread wear has been excellent so far. If you are going to be driving the car in the winter you can't use them, but if you actually plan for the car to see snow you will need real winter tires, even an all season tire won't cut it.
I run the 555Rs for rear tires, but I only drive the Formula 2,000-3,000 miles a year. If you rack up the miles you won't get more than a year or two out of them, and they're not cheap. It's more than worth it to me because I want to be able to use all of the power, otherwise what is the point of having it? They do surprisingly well in the rain, just as good as an all season tire, and the dry grip is unreal. If you are launching a stalled sprayed car at the track they won't get it done but for street driving with a near stock car they are amazing. |

I was going to get a set of 555's but no one had them in stock when I was looking. I ended up with Toyo's. Not a lot of road time on them though, put them on the week before the Quabin cruise last year. Can't say too much about them other than they look good and work well for DD. If you have the $, and they have them in stock this year go for the 555's.
