Anyone have any idea what the problem could be????
ok so this is about my DD not the camaro...
first problem is an electrical problem some where...i just put a bran new AC Delco battery and alternator and replaces a few grounds and cleaned all the grounds and connections for everything i touched...and the problem is if the RPMs are not above like 2500 the volts will slowly drop down to around 11-11.5 but not all the time just once every so often (enough that im kinda worried about it) second problem..everytime i do an oil change i check the other fluid levels and the coolent bottle is ALWAYS bone dry...but there isnt any water in the oil when i drain it..(i dont think...cant see swirls or milky color to it) could that be a head gasket? there is never any coolent puddles on the ground where i park so i know its not the water pump and the radiator is only about two years old thats all that im worried about ......for now

what kind of car? I would say a head gasket leak would be where the coolant is going it is probably just slow enough that it is burning out the exhaust. as for the electrical my guess would be the alternator might have a regulator problem that hasn't become intermittent. if I had to guess I would say this is a 2.2 chevy motor?

your good it is a 2.2 s10..and it was doing this before..which is why i replaced the alternator
and how long do i have before that head gasket becomes a serious problem..i do put about 500-600 miles a week on it

what year is it? i got a motor with 26k on it for 500 bux. id just do that instead of the head gasket. IF thats what it is But more then likely it is. and as far as the alte goes check the main power lead to the alternator itself you might think its got a good connection but they tend to vibrate alot those motors and metal fatigue the wires inside the boot so basically the casing of the wire is held but the wires them selfs are not.

its a 2000...so you think i should try replacing the power cable?
yea i have ZERO desire to do the head gasket on it..it does have 175k on it and this is my first problem..or set of problems with it

yeah i have the same year. my alt issues were all linked to that main power wire i got a good electrical connector from work cut and stripped the wire back to nice clean copper and bolted it back up. thats my first thought on that. and as far as head gasket goes once it GOES if thats what it is it will fill your bottom end thats for sure and i wouldnt trust it too long after that. i bought mine with a bad head gasket cheap and puit one in and the fuckin guy told me it never had coolant in the bottom end foolishly i believed him and blew the bottom end 2 weeks later. SOO again i dont trust it after it goes. just get a motor if you need help finding one or need a engine hoist i got one and can help. i did mine in 2 days snowing on thanksgiving So it can be done in far less time with hand tools.

If there are no associated problems why would you say it is a head gasket? I would check under the water pump, the coolant lines, the radiator, radiator cap, radiator hoses the cap to the coolant reservoir etc etc, all of which are more likely then a head gasket. A slow leak could go completely unnoticed unless you really dig in and look for it, especially under the water pump. Once you eliminate all that easy shit then start worrying about a head gasket.

be very carefull with a pressure test. building up and holding too much pressure can cause more damage to say an already weak WP seal or bad hose.
