What cam do I have?
At Dawg's McDonalds car show, I ran into Mark Decker of Expert Auto in Torrington. He is the one that built the engine I have in the 68 Camaro.
I asked him if he remembered what cam he put in it and he said he remembers everything about the engine. He said: solid roller lifter it is a 636 lift Doug Herbert good for 3000 to 7000 rpm 205 intake 169 exhaust ported heads 10.4 to 1 compression Some of my other specs are: 350 CI small block TH400 trans I looked at the Doug Herbert cam selector page here: http://www.dougherbert.com/cam_selector.html but I am having a hard time with the page and getting anything out of it. Does anyone have any idea what this cam is? edit: The former owner told me a few years ago that it was a 629 cam.

I do believe you have all the info anyway to get the properly selected torque converter?

It would be real nice to have all the cam info.
I got an email back from Herbert Performance: "Those cam specs do not match up with anything that we have. We have a C6F cam that sounds like it may be close but there is no way of knowing with out looking at the number stamped on the front of the camshaft." It could be this CC6F, but I hate guessing. http://www.dougherbert.com/sb-chevy-...cams-9801.html Cam Grind Type:MECHANICAL ROLLER CAMS Application: CHEVROLET V8 57-87 262-265-283-302-305-327-400 Block Size: SB Engine Make: Chevrolet (Chevy) # Of Cylinders: 8 Manufactured In Year: 57 - 87 Cubic Inch Size / Volume: 262-265-283-302-305-327-400 Additional Qualifier: Brand Code: Herbert Performance Cams Cam Only Part #: CC6F Cam Only Price : 219.99 Cam And Lifter Part Number: Cam And Lifters Price : Dur Int-Exh: 305/310 Dur @ .050 Int-Exh: 260/270 Lift 1.5 - 1.5 Int/Exh: 630/630 Lift 1.6 -1.6 Int/Exh: Lift 1.7 -1.7 Int/Exh: Lobe Center: 106 Valve Lash: .025-.025 RPM Range: 3500-7500 Description: Rough idle, mid rangetorque/horsepower, banked oval/bracket racingauto w/race converter

Doug herbert changes cams every couple years so you might not even be able to find it online. Happened to me when looking at some cams for sale and I couldnt find them so I called.

What heads do you have to be able to use a cam that huge? And id say if you can for sure get the number off the front and know what you it would be worth it.
And that sized cam on a 350 have you had it dynoed? I bet the peak will try to spin it wayyyy past 6500 rpm. And it will drastically change what converter they will recomend.

it has to do wih duration. and LSA/ICL it probably has 50+ degrees of over lap. and wont wake up till almost 3000 rpm or higher? Is that how it drives?

That is how it drives. I think you are right and it it wakes up around 3000 rpm. It's made me jump running through yellow lights. When I floor it (automatic already in 2nd gear) it spins the tires easily.
