WTF!!!!!
No oil presure. Started the LS for the first time with an oild gause hooked up and no presure. I founf the gasket on the pickup tube was off and laying in the oil pan, put that back on and secured it. Tested again, still no pressure. Removed oil sending unit and nothing pumping. Pulled valve cover all lifters collapsed with no sign of oil. Pulled the pan again and pulled the main cap (bearings perfect) pulled one head, cylinders perfect. I pulled the front accessories to get to the oil pump, noth out of the ordinary there either. I am at a loss. Were and why no oil presure. I got the oil pump to pump oil but is not getting to the top. What am I missing. Must be something stupid that I am over looking.
Thanx for the help. Jim |

Front and rear of the block has plugs. Front is a freeze plug, back is a dumb bell. Either one missing would drop pressure.
You don't have to pull caps and heads off. |

The dumb bell is at the back of the block behind the rear cover on the drivers side. Its a little little plastic piece that looks like a dumb bell when you remove it.
Also I would check the oil pump. Take it out and open it up and see if the pressure relief valve is stuck open. I just had that happen recently. Went to start my car a few hours after driving it and it had zero pressure all of a sudden.

Problem solved after only 20 hours of diagnosis...... Defective oil pan gasket. The engine had the truck oil pan swapped for a Corvette one. The pan and the riveted gasket were used when installed. Apparently when the person removed the pan from the Corvette, part of the gasket either broke off or was stuck to the block. This is the rectangular area on the left rear side where the oil goes down to the filter. This area was completely open to the oil pan. Oil flowed down the galley and right back into the pan. The only reason we had oil in the filter was gravity. If you didnt know these engines at all you would never have seen this during the install of the pan.
