John(my84z) did some research for me. i was going to switch out the old tired 4.3 in the s10 i just picked up and wanted to cut cost and run stock trans. Sachs sells a conversion flywheel for the LSx. bolts onto the motor and accepts old 11" and 10.5" Classic SBC/BBC clutchs that fit a multitude of trannys. the t5 nv3500 and nv4500 from the trucks. as well as the muncie 4 speeds Wich is what sachs made the flywheel for originally. and if its Auto in the nova? then TCI makes the same But for auto. th400 350 and 200r4 all can be used. behind LSx.
and what i meant by front cover. im not 100% sure if its still available. BUT Gm made a front cover to accept a distributor in the front. like the buicks basically. if not that then MSD makes a conversion box to use the stock LSx 24x/58x crank and 1x camshaft signals to run the coil packs. and just stick a carb on top for fueling.

I am using a 4l80e flexplate and adapter bushing on the 5.3 to th400. Bolts to my TCI 9.5" converter perfectly.
Pretty sure they still make the front cover as Ive seen em for sale on pace performance and scoggin dickey. The MSD box is pn 6010

if your gunna run with some good power. id recommend an SFI approved flexplate. But if the stock 4l80e unit will work. why not.

"Not I see?.....or "Now I see? "
Sometimes it seems like a different world when I hear about 1,000 hp+ motors these days...nitrous, massive blowers, and 8 second quarter mile times.

Agreed David. You read so many things now a days and they make it seem so easy in the magazines and online. Then when you ACTUALLY try to do it you realize they left out the $500 injectors, $400 fuel pump, $200 fuel regulator etc. It starts adding up FAST.

You have to buy all that stuff either way. Basicly a 1000 hp build costs what a 600 hp build cost 5 years ago.

600-700hp seems to be the new entry level fast when talking street cars. Turn key cars with a warranty are starting to approach that now. It's insane.
