Cam does not affect swipe pattern.

Good to know. Ran it pretty good today. Took it to 6800 a few times. Noise hasn't gotten worse. Thinking it could be springs.

Absolutely. Different motor can have a different dech height. Valve job can change valve height. Both affect pushrod length.

Thanks. Didn't really think a untouched ls1 could have a big differences in tolerance. Still waiting on my friend to come by with his pushrod checker.

count the turns after zero lash/preload on the lifter.

For my own sanity I ordered a set of ls7 lifters/ls1 trays from Scoggin Dickey. Heads will be off tomorrow. They are running a deal. 139.00 for the lifters/trays and the 8mm tray bolts. Also picked up some new mls head gaskets. If it still has the noise then so be it.
