I did a quick prep of the 71 for the 2006 power tour, rip the entire suspension out, hotchkis suspension/springs, new exhaust, new everything underneath - it had to *drive* good. Had just enough time to do that. Figured - "it runs, its moves - ok Check, good enough (engine/tranny)". Get to DC, its like a 100 degrees out, crawling in rush hour traffic - POOF - there goes my head gasket. Discovered after that the damn heads were milled too far - crappy rebuild job, no way for the gaskets to properly seal. The '71 went on the Northeast RodRun 2 years ago, I'm changing out the engine (again) this year and taking it this fall. |

One more pict - cuz I miss this one ... I sold it about 3 years back. I bought this from colorado. ~50k miles on it, all original. needed to be cleaned up and definitely needed some tlc from sitting around so long. the pict here was after I was all done with it. the only bummer - a Z with a detuned smogged out 305 engine - WTF was GM thinking. my current taurus commuter car has more pep than that thing had. "all show - but no no go". my '71 in comparison isnt "finished" yet (heh - but then again - are they ever?)
