Lol, very true.

So after some reviews and bull shit associated with "BullDozer"/ New AMD FX CPU's. i sed fuck that!!!
went to microcenter today. bought a M5A99X EVO Asus mob. Phenom II X4 840. 2x2gb 4Gigabyte kit of ddr3-1333 and a diablotech(sp?) 600watt power supply. running a pair of FREE GeForce 9800GT video cards in SLI. and at first i was pissed my XP wouldnt start. got the BSOD. but realized XP wont use/run on a quad core and up. So i had to bite the bullet and install Vista 32-Bit wich i got from a friends Dead Emachine Free. and after some Serious bullshit with drivers and getting everything installed. its seems to have stabilized and runs pretty fucking good. we will see how the SLI works tomorrow wen i install Skyrim again!!!! |
Skyrim, Lol
Seems like a soild setup, I would look into a 64 bit OS tho so you can use the quad core and other things correctly. |
yeah i did. my wifes mother had a 64 bit Vista i Just reinstalled and am running with my FULL 4gb's of ram and Quad core is kicking EVERYTHINGS ass!!!!
badass parts list. Build pics? hahaha
pics soon! i only got cheap microcenter brand non OC'd ram cuz i was stuck with windowsxp/vista 32bit till today. simple phone call to microsoft and the cd key for 32 and 64 bit are the same for the SAME version. Home Premium 32bit for Home Premium 64bit so i boroughed a vista 64 disc my cd key and i was done in about an hour.
nice! I never heard of that store tho? I got all my stuff off Newegg.. Im a noob tho never got stuff from best buy.
Newegg is the tits. Only time i got better deals when circut city was going under. I build my first $1200 rig for like 700 bucks lol. $400 mobo for 180 i think it was.
Microcenter!!!! most of the time better prices then newegg and you get your shit there no order and wait!!!! and there only right in cambridge so Close to me!
Nice!!
I want an ssd :0
they will end up cheaper then rotating media drives soon enough! Thailand disaster has taken its told on drive media!
As gamers, were gonna see a HUGE performance increase once SSD become affordable. Basically no load times for anything, I'm sure skyrim has some loading screens which would be obsolete with 4+ gigs of ram and ssd.

yeah SSD is in the future for me. 500gbx2 sata 3g/s raid 0 is what ill use for now.
I partitioned my 500g, not considering how big my engineering programs are I am almost out of space on my C: partition... D: has lots to go. Fail
:klab: |
yeah i did that once. partitioned my 200 into 2 100gig parts. and filled it up Fast! and then you start losing performance from smaller and smaller paging files and yada yada.

good luck with that. 1tb drive on the cheap is going for $140+. and a 2tb drive on the cheap(OEM) is $170+. Flooding in Thailand man shits gone THREW THE ROOF for Hard Drives!
I wont be building it soon, and even if i pay 300 in hdd, im still using the first 500 gig i bought like...5 years ago could stand the upgrade lol
yeah but with a 10k rpm drive and sata 6gb/s it would be a no brainer to run 2 of those or even one at lightning speed.
10k? Only seen gaming drives with 10k+ speeds and then they were smaller drives and mad expensive. I have no issues with 7k or even 5k rpms disks really, they still get the job done lol
i dunno seek time on my wd cavier 500 sata 2 3gb/s is SLOW my wifes mothers comp has 2 sata 1.5g/s 250 gig maxtors and runs raid 0 and its Fast! imagine having that kind of performance on one drive Then double it?!?!?!?
I'm gonna post up a project log for my PC. Fix the hard drive issue and I'm thinking of a bigger case and making a silent PC setup! My shit is loud... and I had to cut my chassis to fit my graphics card lol.
:klab: |

Damn out of my price range!! This case was 30bux and I just found out why it was so loud my fans were set to high speed because i overclocked :D I slowed em down weee
$30 case?! After having a nice case I could never go back, even my current case was more then that and its a POS lol
I was stupid and sold my old rig for much less then i put into it, I wont make the same mistake again. I know the next case i buy ill have forever, hence going a smidge over kill lol |
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0340862
probably my next case. seeing it in person AND its onsale At the store for 27 dollars makes it a no brainer. ive had my cooler master ATC-S* for a Longgg time and its still in good. will probably stick my spare shit in it use it as a server or sell it for what i just put into mine. |
sell it.
and damn thats a good price! im gonna take ride to this store next week. anyone wanna buy a case off me? |
ill go depending on what day? weekends!!!!!
Yes!! road trip???
I come back on and you guys are speaking computer greek again!!!!
hahahaha WERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!?!?!?!
All over! Do it again next year too! In the meantime got some catching up to do!
I haven't read through this whole thread, but did AMD ever go through with their own version of Hyper threading? That's one reason I thought about trying an i7. But the hardware is double the price over an AMD rig. AMD was rumored to do their own version of it with the "Bulldozer" Platform 6 core. AMD can't really keep up as far as most bench scores, so i think they've just been adding cores to compensate.

i went back to a single Sata300 500Gig drive for now. im still on the stock heat sink so only bumped the cpu about 200mhz and uped the voltage i think about .2 volts. all done by my mother boards Auto over clock Vpu chip. Shit Really kicks ass. i can go more!! but not on the stock cooling. the temps hit about 120 while under heavy loads. wich is still WELL under AMD's recommended 195* limits.
Lapped the CPU/Cooler?? You'd be surprised how uneven the AMD chips are. (forgot what they call the metal piece) You can build a liquid setup for pretty cheap. http://www.petrastechshop.com/watercooling.html . D-Tek Fusion blocks and Swiftech pump with XSPC pump top and Res. That pump top helps the flow a LOT.
But come to think of it, 120* F (F?) is only 48.8888888888888888888* c so that's still pretty dam good! And the stock AMD coolers actually work pretty frickin good! Juice it up, run a burn test on it and see what it does. Up the multiplier until it becomes unstable, then juice up the voltage if you need to. You can find the ceiling of the stock voltage real easy. I think i got my stock Phenom II cooler to around 3.4 gigs before I got rid of the dust pumps and went to a liquid setup. |
my multiplier is locked on my chip i can just fuck with front side and voltage
^ Oh, Front side is easy then. Just run intel burn test between runs to check for stability. IBT > Prime, IMO. Quicker and the same test.
I feel like fucking with my rig again.. But it's a depressing mess of dust in the basement. HAD it covered and messed with it, then uncovered it and used it and just never covered it again. :( Want a new case and a bigger Rad.......... and another 4870.. lol |
Pizza! What was the name of that computer place you always rant about, do they sell pc games?
