I saved around 50 a month. i know it was stupid of me to drive it. I had no choice. I was in the middle of fixing my daily driver so it would pass inspection and was not running at the time. Had to get to work somehow. Its kinda hard to get a ride when u live by yourself. lol Of course that was the first time in 2 months ive driven that car off my street.

c4boom 02-05-2010 05:35 AM

We all have done it. I had a street bike stolen years ago.Thought I was smart by saving 3-400 by taking it off the road.Cost me $8k.

I always shake my head seeing people taking off insurance to save a few bucks.

ArcticSS 02-05-2010 05:35 PM

Looked at the car today to get a better estimate. You guys were right. There is more damage underneath everything than we initially thought. Trying to figure out the cheapest alternative. My friends uncle would let me use his shop to do the motor swap and i would have help from his workers.

1.) Buy a 98+ v6 camaro and swap out the whole drivetrain, but im not sure if i gotta replace the rear end or if the k-member is the same up front and probably some other things need to be replaced that i dont know of.

2.) Buy a 98+ SS or z28 thats cheap enough maybe with a blown motor or tranny and swap things over. Also pretty difficult to find. Im sure this would be the easier.

3.) Just go out and buy another one. (Dont really have the money to do that right now.)

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-06-2010 04:31 AM

Get a V6 chassis in good shape. you already have EVERYTHING you need for the swap from your SS. and yes the rear end will be different gears and posi or non posi. and the LS1 K-Member ONLY fits LS1's they are specific. as well as all the shit bolted to it. like the rack, suspension and such. id say if your lower and upper control arms are in good shape your K-Member didnt take a whack go for it. get a 2-3000 dollar V6 wait it out like i did and find the color you Want. and then just swap EVERYTHING!!!!!! fuel lines gas tank complete drivetrain interior and engine harnesses. there was slight differences between them all so its beast to keep all your wiring together out of your SS for a sure fit!

the list can go on. and you will find little small shit that is different through the years. but if you just swap it ALL over then you'll be all set. if you need any more help or info I or Nem SS can help you out just send a PM.

ArcticSS 02-06-2010 06:23 AM

I think the only thing i whacked on the suspension in the front was a bent tie rod and when we were driving it into the shop, i think a ball joint broke (not sure what its called). so now one of the wheels is at an angle while the other one is straight.

Found a few on craigslist, but they're being shady bastards when i talked and emailed them.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-06-2010 06:31 AM

better check your K-Member. just to be sure if you whacked hard enough to break a tie rod and a ball joint you will also be looking at a knuckl/spindle too. they bend REALL easy!! Nem SS on here can get you a pair or one at a decent price. send him a PM he works at an F-Body JunkYard.

Slowhawk 02-06-2010 03:43 PM

I have the K-member out of my car.

Just think the whole process over. Buying a V6 and switching everything sounds good IF you don't mind spending a month doing it.(everyday)

The best deal is to buy another V8 car and part out your's.It will be cheaper and take a hell of alot less time.

ArcticSS 02-06-2010 04:20 PM

That's why i'd rather buy an ls1 camaro with a blown engine or somethin.

ArcticSS 02-08-2010 04:12 PM

After thinking about it for a lil while im gonna part out the car. I wish i could fix it but it's gonna be a lot. So if anyone is looking for some parts for a 98+ camaro im here. Most of the body is damaged. There was some impact buckling on my drivers side quarter from the impact. Frame and body in front and back shifted over. The rear hatch might still be good as i havent tried to open it yet for fear of busting glass. Drivers door is also good. Rearend and drivetrain are still good as is the motor and tranny. Still starts but leaking antifreeze. The radiator support is still intact and only slightly damaged, probably leaking from the lower hose. Interior is tan leather with a tear in drivers seat as usual but seats are still good. The hood can be easily fixed. Only the hood latch is bent and can be bent back. I will have more pics later this week when i can get a camera. If anybody wants specific pics let me know. Engine still starts up fine and tranny still shifts perfect. Passenger side wheels have a few dents and dings but look okay and can prob be pulled out. Other two wheels are fine. Motor is completely stock except for K&N filter and Slp loudmouth 2 exhaust. I will prob keep the catback exhaust though.

Pm me if u have ques.

My loss is .....maybe your gain?

ls6monte 02-08-2010 05:21 PM

That sucks! Good luck.

Navy01z 02-10-2010 06:28 AM

Hows the rear? What gears are in there and how much would you be willing to part with it for?

ArcticSS 02-10-2010 02:50 PM

The rear seems fine i didnt hear any whining at all when i drove it. Not sure what the gears are in the back. Im pretty sure its stock. But i might not have it for long because i got an offer on it if i dont end up fixing it myself.

*LS1* Queen 02-10-2010 11:31 PM

That really sucks im sorry to hear! Its a sad day when theres no saving an fbody :(...for the gears u can look up the rpo code on the door. it will be "GU?" code. that will tell u whats in it.
Also what color is ur interior?

ArcticSS 02-11-2010 03:08 AM

It's tan leather interior, and yes it is very sad as i am still kicking myself and will be doing so for a while.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-11-2010 04:17 AM

live and learn man! ive been there. my car wasnt shifted over. and i was going over 100 mph into the gaurdrail. those LS1 cars are WEAK!!! haha Kidding! i hope you find another F-Body. it would be a shame to lose yah already!

Yeah it did seem kinda weird how i bent the frame in the front and back since i hit it on an angle...oh well i guess. I still have another f-body. My green 94z has been sitting at my aunt's house the past 5 months outside infortunately. I almost sold it, good thing i didnt. See i still has it.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-11-2010 06:18 PM

LS1 SWAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

irockidz28 02-11-2010 07:27 PM

^ what he said!!!!

ArcticSS 02-11-2010 07:56 PM

That's what i first thought of but i already spent a lot of money to fix the lt1. I wouldnt really have the time with my two jobs. I gotta think about it. I would prob have to change the rearend too and maybe k-member or is that the same?
I dont know what to do.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-11-2010 10:51 PM

what do you mean? you pull the K-Member and rear from the LS1 SS you already have. take two make one!

c4boom 02-12-2010 02:32 AM

dont you have to do dash fuel tank and some other shit too though to make the computer work

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-12-2010 03:07 AM

yeah just swap everything from the SS. interior cluster fuel tank fuel lines everything. should take 2 weekends. with out a lift.

ArcticSS 02-12-2010 04:02 AM

Yeah thats something i would have to definitely look into. I would have to know every part that would needs to get swapped over before i even attempt this, plus i need a place to do it. Is there somewhere online i can get this info like maybe ls1tech if they have any forum topics on this kind of swap.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-12-2010 07:38 AM

Send Adam a PM Nem SS on here. hes done more then one LS1 swap into and LT1 car. he knows the ins and out better then anyone i know. Its pretty simple. tear one car down to a shell. like nuthing left for wiring or drivetrain. and then do the same thing with the other car EVERYTHING OUT interior drivetrain and fuel system. and then just put it back together. you have the PERFECT setup to do it. you dont have to worry about the little shit that different. your just swaping basically a good running car into another shell. and you have all the shit you need. down to every last wire. it sounds like its alot but the motor and tranny can be pulled in less then a day on your back. ive done mine from driving it in to on a stand in an hour and a half. But ive done a few. its not hard but is time consuming. But again for all the small shit and questions you may have while in the middle of it Ask Adam!!

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-12-2010 08:44 AM

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...-2000-ls1.html

that may help. i personally would just do a complete car harness swap But there yah go and theres a few more out there.

*LS1* Queen 02-13-2010 12:18 AM

DO IT!!!!!

ArcticSS 02-14-2010 05:47 AM

Hey navy i might end up being able to give u the rear if u still need it. Im prob gonna be towing it to my friends house for storage so i can part it out, because i cant leave it at my friends bodyshop in pieces. I am gonna try and set it up where i can move it maybe next friday to his house, but you'd have to come down and get the rear yourself. Im pretty sure it has 3.42 but i gotta look up the rpo code to be positive.

ArcticSS 02-14-2010 05:04 PM

c4boom 02-15-2010 05:24 AM

ArcticSS 02-15-2010 02:11 PM

I would love to but i dont have the time between two jobs or a garage to do it in.The car is gonna be moved so i can part it out.

Slowhawk 02-17-2010 08:10 PM

Did I win with suggesting parting it out?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 02-17-2010 08:42 PM

Shut IT OLD MAN!!!!!

ArcticSS 02-21-2010 05:40 AM

c4boom 02-21-2010 06:26 AM

Formula413 02-21-2010 09:14 PM

ArcticSS 02-21-2010 09:59 PM
