Nice car man!

Northeast Rod Run 03-08-2011 06:29 PM

Thanks guys. I tore the car down do an empty shell about a dozen years ago and had the thing media blasted inside and out.

If you noticed, all the side marker lights are shaved, no door handles, shaved drip edge and shaved bumper bolts. I think that's about it for major exterior stuff

I did have a new headliner, rear package tray and visors made in late model fabrics, but I never finished the rest of interior. It has no rug and old interior panels.

This winter was the first one it's ever spent outside since I owned it, and it actually suffered a little damage from it's tent crashing down on it. I was not happy about that. I don't know if I'm going to bother fixing the damage, or just drive it as-is until I have time to tear the whole thing apart and do it over again.

Great color, I don't know old school stuff that well but looks like a big block?

Yes that would be a big block!

BadBird505 03-09-2011 12:22 AM

Very nice!

Northeast Rod Run 03-09-2011 12:26 AM

It's a 396 punched out .060 (408 c.i.) backed up by a Turbo 400. With 3:73's in the rear, I get almost 9 MPG on the highway as long as I stay under 70MPH. After that, the mileage really goes down hill fast

I have taken it on the Northeast Rod Run the last two years and might take it on this year's run also. Even with that type of mileage, I don't hesitate to take it on a 1000+ mile round trip. It will usually shake itself apart by the end of the trip, but that way I have something to work on every spring

bottledbird68 03-09-2011 01:11 AM

Lol, I hear you on the shaking itself apart. Been there myself with my 68. Best thing I ever did was put overdrive in it. I'll never build another car without it again.
What exactly did you do for the headliner? Is it still a bow type or is it a board style now? Been thinking about this myself...

Anyhow, nice looking car. Even nicer that you actually drive it :)

MouseTrapRacingTyler 03-16-2011 11:50 PM

Nice car and great to see you actually abuse it a little

It's still the bow type. I used the old factory headliner as a pattern, but had it re-sewed with modern day materials.

I don't drive it that much at all, but I try to. I have had a newly rebuilt 700r4 sitting in my shed for two years now. I just need to find time, but I already know it's not happening this year. I am putting 3.42's in the rear before summer though

Need to get better mileage for the Rod Run in October

TBerry95z28 03-17-2011 05:08 AM

who needs better mileage lol
