My 2nd Gens
Ok just pretend the jap car in the middle isnt there ...
'71 (shipped over from So Cal), '78RS (cuz I have to be different, everyone keeps the Z's -- and yes it has the original 14" rims, ouch), '74 Z28 Circle Track. http://www.northeastrodrun.com/image.../x/the_lot.jpg |

I did a quick prep of the 71 for the 2006 power tour, rip the entire suspension out, hotchkis suspension/springs, new exhaust, new everything underneath - it had to *drive* good. Had just enough time to do that. Figured - "it runs, its moves - ok Check, good enough (engine/tranny)". Get to DC, its like a 100 degrees out, crawling in rush hour traffic - POOF - there goes my head gasket. Discovered after that the damn heads were milled too far - crappy rebuild job, no way for the gaskets to properly seal. The '71 went on the Northeast RodRun 2 years ago, I'm changing out the engine (again) this year and taking it this fall. |

One more pict - cuz I miss this one ... I sold it about 3 years back. I bought this from colorado. ~50k miles on it, all original. needed to be cleaned up and definitely needed some tlc from sitting around so long. the pict here was after I was all done with it. the only bummer - a Z with a detuned smogged out 305 engine - WTF was GM thinking. my current taurus commuter car has more pep than that thing had. "all show - but no no go". my '71 in comparison isnt "finished" yet (heh - but then again - are they ever?)

Beautiful car though. 1980? |

did you sell that car to a gentleman up my way say around south boston? Or did you have the exhaust redone on it say a few years agoish??? |
This car is an '81. Never went to Boston while I had it ... I sold it to a chic from Las Vegas (sight unseen - she liked the picts). Funny thing is - years earlier I had almost the same exact car, but an '80, and when I sold that one - a chic in Mahopac bought it. So - am I driving chic cars, or do chics dig these cars? Not sure which one it is yet ;-)

I love the RS. I have a 78 Z myself.
|
I had an '81 with the same color stickers as your, but it was charcoal gray. I bought it out of Texas in 1988, with 42k on the odometer. The things was MINT and fully loaded. All I did was replace all the rubbers with new stuff and threw a fresh paintjob on it. Nine days after the bodyshop I was in the middle of a 4 car accident and it got totalled. I was out of work from that accident for almost 6 months because of injuries. That is still one of my cars that I miss the most (my '89 Formula tops that list. that one got stolen)
My '81 had every option including the 350 instead of the 305. Once I got it I put headers and a cam into it, along with getting a the tranny reworked so it would take more abuse. That car even had the factory slapstick shifter. I haven't seen to many of those. |
This thread makes me want to dig mine out of the iceberg its buried in. Its a 78 Z/28, caramine red with red interior, and 72k hahaha. Rotten :c
