crank but no start

Drove the car from my gas place today into work. Stopped at a Sunoco to grab a drink and came back out to start. It fired but didn't stay running. Tried cranking it again but thats all it does. It seems like its not firing at all or theres no fuel there. I took a plug out after i got it home after trying to start it and its dry. Called Don and he told me to check the Ign and Fuel relays. I swapped them out with the Fan relays since they are the same but that didn't work either. Cant check the shrader valve on the fuel rail since they are Fast rails and not stock ones. Fuel press gauge in the car reads 42lbs but that hasnt moved ever since buying the car so i don't even know if that works. There doesn't seem to be a hot-wire kit. Has a racetronix 255 fuel pump in the car but since theres a tree mulching company outside i cant her if the fuel pump kicks on to prime. I also tried unplugging the maf to see if that was causing it. Checked all the fuses and they are all good. Well now im kinda stumped on what it could be. I think its a fuel problem but im not sure. Anyone have ideas? Bueler?

ZFreie 05-31-2011 05:10 PM

Is there spark at the plugs? And thats WICKED shitty the fast fuel rails don't have a shrader valve, where does the gage for fuel pressure inside the car run to? could you hook it up there somehow?

:edit: wait till the the people next door quit making noise to see if the pump primes lol

941LE 05-31-2011 05:15 PM

I'm the only one home so I can't crank and see if there's spark. These guys are going to town on those trees so it might be awhile. I looked along the rail and only saw the feed line to the rail from the tank. No idea where the sender is for the gauge. Ill go out later since I really dont wanna look at the car right now lol.

My84Z 05-31-2011 05:16 PM

Check fuses

941LE 05-31-2011 05:17 PM

Already did. None of them are blown. I'm thinking fuel pump but gotta wait til these assholes across the street stop making noise.

Lol, seems like a good hunch, id double and triple check the fueses and relays just to be sure, cause pulling the pump isn't exactly an "easy" job, unless you trap door it lol

941LE 05-31-2011 08:40 PM

whelp its defintaly the fuel pump. Hopefully if all goes it'll be towed to Dons by tomorrow to get the new one installed.

Good luck Mike!

What leads you to believe it is a bad pump? Check the fuel pump lead positive wire make sure it didn't come loose and hit the headers when you did the install. The fuel press gauge does work but with the big pump and oversized injectors if you see it dropping you have a problem. The fuel pump isn't very old and it is a racetronix pump so I doubt that is the issue unless it is a wire. Also when you put the headers in and had the starter out you may have pulled a wire out of the crank sensor. It happens alot. Only way to get it to throw a light is to crank the engine for 30-45 seconds and see if it throws a code or pull the starter and check the wires/plug

ILuvPizzaTimes10 06-01-2011 01:29 AM

a racetronix pump and no hotwire kit=fail.

Batman 06-01-2011 01:33 AM

Umm yeah it has the hotwire kit

ILuvPizzaTimes10 06-01-2011 01:34 AM

it does? mike sed it doesnt? im willing to bet its something to do with that. MIKE check That!!!! were did you hang the secondary relay?

Batman 06-01-2011 01:35 AM

I didn't install the pump, btu I paid quite a bit for the kit and the installation so it sure as hell better be there. It should be above the tank

941LE 06-01-2011 01:37 AM

ill find out when the trap door gets put in

Batman 06-01-2011 01:39 AM

did you check the wire by the headers?

941LE 06-01-2011 01:40 AM

wire is for...the FP gauge? Did that gauge needle ever move for you nick?

Batman 06-01-2011 01:42 AM

Only if I bled pressure out of the system and it dropped 2 PSI ont he dyno, apart from that not really, and I'm talking the 12 volt giant red wire from the battery to the fuel pump, goes around the back of the engine then down the firewall and to the back, if that got cut loose at all during the header install it may have fallen onto the header and melted

*LS1* Queen 06-01-2011 04:29 AM

good luck mike..hope its just something stupid

Motaboata 06-01-2011 12:49 PM

Call me if u need. Hand... im around

Slowhawk 06-08-2011 12:11 AM

I will say, whoever did the wiring on that car should be shot. You DO NOT hook a bunch of wires directly off the battery.

Fixed some wiring and the car runs fine now.

Wiring is one thing I actually didn't do, but I paid quite a bit for the fuel pump install so I will be having a chat with the shop that did it, thanks for the heads up and for Mike, sorry about that, guess the shop wasn't as good as their rep/ So you are saying the hotwire kit wasn't even there?

KLAB 09-27-2011 03:37 PM

So conclusion of story, was the hotwire kit even there?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 09-28-2011 01:42 AM

Holy Resurrection batman.... no pun intended.

KLAB 09-28-2011 12:35 PM
