finding out the hard way.....
that you have an under drive pulley.
So basically ive been wanting to have my ac work...so i originally thought it needed to be recharged...as i was recharging it i looked down and noticed i had no belt. No for someone seasoned with these cars they probably would have realized there was a reason for this...however im not so i pressed on. Went to pepboys and picked up an AC belt..get home, take the drive belt off, put the one on and its wayyyy to fucking big...called pep boys and reconfirm with my buddy, apparently they put the wrong belt in the wrong box...i swing back out and pick up the RIGHT OEM one..only to get under the car and find out THATS too big...i take a picture and send it off my buddy...who replies "that pulley looks brand fucking new" Thats when it hit me...a close up reveals Auto Specialties Performance stamped on the pulley.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/IMAG0111.jpg now to find a belt. |
Take some rope/string and measure the length of it around the pulleys. That should get you in the ballpark. Get a few belts around the size you want. When you get the right belt keep the number in your glovebox! lol

just did a quick search on ls1tech and found it, buddy has it in stock and hes delivering it to me saturday. should be all set. Thanks for the info though.

|
fuck him he is an ass in a worst way then you haha!
|
i dunno if being a worse asshole then me is possible.
|
hey whatever. fuck it..back to me....short of heads and FI i dont see much of an upgrade route now for me, id like it a touch quicker down low guess i need to throw a maggie on it lol
|
Yeah first suspension and safety! Then whatever u want for power but gears rear ds loop bellhousing just to name a few.
|
oh i forgot gears...needs a retune for them right? that will give me an excuse to get the problem im having fixed, maybe free up some ponies in the process
anyone have 4.10s with a 6 speed? hows the highway driveability? after that ill probably make suspension and safety my priority, Im thinking springs and struts first. anyone wana make a few bucks on a gear install ;) |
Heads!!!
|
heads are so damn expensive.....unless i go the truck head route..but dont they raise compression? isnt that not a good idea with FI in mind down the road?
|
4:10 70mph @ 1800 rpm nice 22 MPG. If i Baby it :haha:
|
Adam gets like 27mpg with 430's 6th gear ftmfw!

Yeah a 4.10 is a good gear with a six speed.
|
but heres the real question, worth doing in the 10 bolt or just save up for a 9" and budget for 4.10s then

Well I will tell you one thing. The first time to the track or first time you hammer it, its going to make noise.

i had GM 4.10's in the trans am for years. i guess its all in how you drive it. saving up and throwing a 9" in the car isnt Just buying it and installing it. aftermarket/adjustable torque arm is required to get the pinion angle correct. adjustable lower control arms and pan hard bar are needed to get the rear end back into stock/forward position. ans also a drive shaft a conversion ujoint Will break and then say good bye floor. just throwing it in there with stock suspension shit will be a waiste. i dont know what you have But start with the rear and work your way up. throw some 4.10's in it. as long as they're set up right you should be pretty safe as long as your not an animal with it. then start buying suspension stuff/supporting mods to go with the 9" install. i bought shit piece by piece as i could afford it. That what i recommend. If your looking for a faster feel to the car and a quicker time that will net you some ET and seat of the pants feel for sure.
|
I had planned on doing suspension mods next...mainly struts and springs to start, but with gears i can take all the power i have now and just roast the rear tires so thats OBVIOUSLY the logical choice lol
so define drive like an animal? |
rev limiter and dump it. side step the clutch everywere. just drive harsh All the time. i mean i wasnt easy on my rear end and i broke a couple spider gearv teeth at the end of its life But it was still in one piece after a good 3 years of abuse.

I broke my 10 bolt stock. I wouldn't spend a penny on a 10 bolt. Imho. It seems the lt1 rears were alittle stronger I dunno why

I dunno my lt1 had some go

my lt1 went pretty good. Coulda got some better times but was babying it off the launch so i wouldnt grenade the 10 bolt. But never had a issue with the 10 bolt at all.
|
I have a 396 ci lt1 that puts down 385 hp and 396 tq at the tires. I raced on it with motive gear 4.10's and nittos. Babbied it and it held up. What I'm saying is he's not going to track the car every weekend. So for a street car for now spend the few hundred and get gears as well as the other shit needed to put in the 9". And have fun with it. Everyone has different opinions and different track records with 10 bolts. Some guys run them at the track 6 speed and into the 10's no problems other bolw em up doing a burn out down the road.
