Real bad tire hop?

my car STILL tire hops real bad after a set of relocation brackets. any ideas? ive tried the LCA's in both positions.

DemonWithin99 08-05-2011 04:41 PM

adj. panhard bar?

My84Z 08-05-2011 04:53 PM

Bad shocks or springs or pinion angle

I agree. Could be shocks, LCA bushings could be shot, pinion angle or better torque arm. I think one of those will fix the issue. You didn't waste money on your relo brackets though. They def help in putting power down.

PHB shouldn't make much of a difference. That is keeping the lateral movement stable. You want to keep the suspension travel and forward/backward movement stable.

My84Z 08-05-2011 07:40 PM

My car only does with street tires on it i am guessing cause the diameter and rubber difference

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-05-2011 08:37 PM

i have new pan hard bar, lca's and torque arm w/ bushing for relocation crossmember. im gunna fuck around with the pinion angle but its tough with out a drive on lift. i have New shocks but they are just GM replacement DeCarbons. just funny that the car never hopped with all the same suspension shit except the 9 inch. i think its geometry and not the parts them selves. But thanx for all the ideas. now i have to spend more money! Fucking Fuck!

Formula413 08-05-2011 09:31 PM

Were you ever able to actually use a gauge to check the pinion angle on a lift? I watched a video once on how to check and set pinion angle with the gauge, it was definitely a precision operation, seems like if it was off even a little it could cause problems.

TrickrTreat 08-05-2011 09:41 PM

pinion angle. maaaaaybe shocks, but more likely P/A

My84Z 08-05-2011 10:35 PM

Your shit is adjustable why more money? stfu lol

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-05-2011 10:41 PM

If I need better shocks! Well see. I'm pretty sure don got the angle right. But ill go threw the whole setup again. It also hopped with the 9inch and the stock torque arm as well.

Formula413 08-05-2011 10:48 PM

You have drag springs on it right? You could try drag shocks too, something like QA1s. Spendy I know.

ls6monte 08-06-2011 12:55 AM

Drive on lift??????????? I wonder where one of those are?????????????? Any idea Captain Fuckface??????????????????????????????

You were very close to one last fucking night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :madfu: :madfu: :madfu:

SLP IROC-Z 08-06-2011 06:15 AM

you dont need a drive on to do pinion angle. measure the angle of the driveshaft and make the pinion 2-3 degrees less. its not a leaf spring or 4 link car, the pinion angle will remain the same through a wide range of motion.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-06-2011 02:04 PM

you should never adjust pinion angle wen the suspension is unloaded.

84ta406 08-06-2011 02:10 PM

I got some Comp engineering 3 ways, if you wanna try em?

BryanH 08-09-2011 09:17 PM

DeCarbons have really poor damping characteristics. If you fix your pinion angle, get some Bilstiens. After that I'm not sure...

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-10-2011 12:06 AM

only thing that makes me think its not the shocks is the come factory. and if that was my issue then a factory car/setup would hop and they dont. correct me if im wrong?

Formula413 08-10-2011 12:11 AM

Car doesn't make ~400rwtq from the factory though

SLP IROC-Z 08-10-2011 12:16 AM

damn right they dont have good dampening my car slams the rear bump stops launching at the track!

My84Z 08-10-2011 01:39 AM

I have stock decarbons also fuck a bilstien if you drag race bilstien has no place on your car. Decarbons have been on many 9 second cars

SLP IROC-Z 08-10-2011 01:58 AM

9 second stick cars with stock decarbons? let me guess they had stock 10 bolts in them to hahahahah

My84Z 08-10-2011 02:41 AM

Most also say lid and catback cars don't do 12's does that make it true?

Slowhawk 08-12-2011 02:01 AM

The 9" rear of that design sucks. Mosers have issue's to, same housings. You have to have control of the instant center and move that around.

Shocks and springs help very little. My car had 90k+ stock shocks/springs and never hopped.

Pinion angle should be pretty close to 0 to -2. BUT,depends on how you measure pinion angle too.

ILuvPizzaTimes10 08-12-2011 02:06 AM

yeah thats what im trying to track down. i still get a slightttttt drive shaft vibration at highway speeds around 65-85. just sucks i have no real time to fuck with it lately and summers almost over!!!!!!

BryanH 08-15-2011 08:45 PM

I've heard people have cured some minor wheel hop before by putting in better shocks, but these aren't serious drag racers. I'd go with what Slowhawk recommends in any case.

Quikz28 09-08-2011 11:45 PM

i know this is kinda an old thread but pizza do u have drag bags already?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 09-09-2011 12:57 PM

i have eibach drag launch springs that have the bag but its not installed at the moment.

SLP IROC-Z 09-09-2011 05:58 PM

set my pinion at -2.5, lca's in middle hole and put my sway bar back in wheel hop is gone just burns the tires thru 1st and 2nd.

smokinss 09-18-2011 05:43 PM

Yeah my car doesn't wheel hop at all. And don't listen to Jon. I've got bilstiens and a eibach pro kiit on my ss along with lca brackets and phb, boxed lcas, etc, etc. I think it could be a pinion angle. We did mine with the car loaded on jackstands and went from there. I think its at like -1

So your saying lowering springs and bilstiens are a good drag setup lol ok

smokinss 09-18-2011 06:06 PM

Hey not saying it s ideal but a low 1.5 is better than most. And it rides great so say what ya want to.

My84Z 09-18-2011 06:16 PM

Anythig "works" lol

ILuvPizzaTimes10 09-19-2011 11:13 PM

haha its more random than anything now. pinion angle will be addressed before next track day wen i get to John Force my way down the 1/8th mile on some Shittos!!!!

SLP IROC-Z 09-20-2011 03:59 AM

lol @ shittos

c4boom 09-21-2011 12:21 AM

i couldn't hook them so ya you sure as hell are not going to LOL

Slowhawk 09-21-2011 01:06 AM

Suspension goes alot to making the tires hook. 1.52 60's here on my 17" Nitto's at 24psi.

c4boom 09-21-2011 01:43 AM

auto and tons of time getting the suspension right I suck at tuning suspension have no real clue what im doing so I have to learn from others and go from there

My84Z 09-21-2011 01:50 AM

Don's not talking about an auto. I got 1.7's on nitto's gotta slip them can't shock em

ILuvPizzaTimes10 09-21-2011 12:36 PM

yeah Don ran 1.5's in the vette. that fucking thing FLEW!!

BryanH 09-21-2011 03:24 PM

Anyone know how to get nittos to hook on a banked track from a stop? lol

I got stranos/konis and stock other stuff like LCAs, Torque arm, etc
