Shifter Options

Im planning on buying a short-throw shifter anyone have any suggestions? Im looking between the Pro 5.0 or the MGW. Im leaning more on the MGW just because of all the great reviews it has... Anything to look out for?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-12-2011 11:58 PM

dont get a 5.0. i hate there detent setup personally. the MGW is probably the best feeling shifter i had driven with, my Ebay 15 dollar shifter is still holding up though!! haha so i wont be upgrading till that one falls apart!

My brother had a pro 5.0 shifter in his t56 cobra, he hated it. I didnt mind it, but i wasnt crazy about it, he just said it "was too harsh" or something like that. Ive heard great stuff about the MGW tho, never driven a car with one tho. Theyre both pretty pricey tho.

What have people heard about the B&M ripper shifter? Im lookin to buy one, just because its more affordable as long as people say its good. The last owner of my car told me there was a short throw already in the car, but come to find out, its stock.

a stock hurst base and a short stick is a MUCH better shifter then the over priced ripper.

i have a pro 5.0 in the WS6. Had the ebay knock off in the LT1. And had a Ripper and a Hurst in my RS. I gotta say i liked the ebay knock off the most. Plus was the cheapest.

Haha your probably right, I just checked the prices again for the ripper and it was alot more expensive than i remember for some reason (maybe its a different shifter im thinkin about) but I saw a used one for sale for about 80 bux on craigslist

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-14-2011 12:20 AM

I have MGW AND ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY
Bomer and i r the only ones that have it, that i know of
2 to 3 never miss google video or check out it in person ill
Show it if your around still driving it too snow falls

My vote would be for the MGW!!

Although I've ZERO Issues with a Hurst Base Plate and Lou's Short Stick.

EDIT: The other BIG thing is to change the Knob... That ball really caused me issues, I've got the standard "Hurst" Leather Knob as well, but there are plenty of options there......

Have you tried a Non-Ball Shifter?

Mine looks like this:
SLP Shifter Knob
It's much much more form fitting to your hand and way easier to throw around...

I mean if you like the ball style no worries, but I found I missed the most shifts with a short throw and ball style shifter (Especially 2-3).

I haven't tried a different shift knob iv only used the ball. I like it but I don't have anything to compare it to. Maybe ill buy that one and give it a try and if I don't like it I can always sell it. Thanks
