Learn me on the 3800 series I....

Its been talking a while to actually get this car, but this week HOPEFULLY I am picking up a 95 Buick Lesabre for a winter beater/ possible new summer dd. Some lazy ass wiki research told me:

"The LeSabre's engine from 1992-1995 was the 3800 V6, which produced 170 hp (127 kW) and 225 ft·lbf (305 N·m) The 3513 lb (1593 kg) car got 18 mpg (13.1 L/100 km) in the city and 28 mpg (8.4 L/100 km) on the highway, which was slightly better than the 1991 model. The car accelerated to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a respectable 8.9 seconds and could cover the quarter mile in 16.9 seconds at 80 mph (129 km/h). Top speed was electronically limited to 108 mph (173 km/h)."

So is this the same motor as in the 93-95 V6 Camaro's? I thought they had 3.4L's at first and didn't get the 3.8L's till like 97 or 98? I don't know much about the 90's era V6's and yall should teach me more about them, am I gonna be able to slap the V6 GTP top end on this fucker???? hahahaha

Oh yeah, its got 120k on the clock, looks real good other than clear coat peel on trunk lid. But interior is real clean, ex grandpa owned. Only think I noticed is the friggin screraming power steering pump hopefully it jjust needs fluid maybe its got a leak or something or needs a new pump.:ebay:

3.8s start coming into the fbody scence half way threw 95. Most of the 95s were cali models. 96 was the first full yr that the 3.8 came in the fbodies which did away with the boat anchor 3.4. 3.8s a good strong motor which is almost unbreakable (unless i drive it). I killed my 3.8 a week before i picked up my LT1.

Now I wonder if its got the LN3 or the L27? I'm guessing it would be the L27, which has two piece intake upper/lower plenum. With the LN3 you can put the supercharger intake on it because it is one piece and you can use the stock heads. DAMN! Wish I had an LN3!!! hahahaha I <3 wikipedia :klab:

It's an L36 series II and it's actually 205 hp by 230 torque. And yes you could do a top squap from a gtp, for an m90 supercharger on that engine as long as you change the heads to that of an L67 series II. But you'd need to change the connecting rods and pistons to either aftermarket diamond pistons or use the internals from a 3800 gtp block (all forged)

Nooo I'm pretty sure its a series I it said it on the engine cover anyways... I wouldnt go that far into the swap lol I'd just slap the supercharger intake on the stock motor and tune it. LOL stock internals can be left.

It should be a series one in that car, either way it is a good solid motor and should serve you well.

KLAB 12-22-2009 04:11 AM

Yay sounds like I should get a lot of life out of it with only 120k on the clock right now...

Batman 12-22-2009 02:41 PM

right up until you fuck with it

KLAB 12-22-2009 06:05 PM

No fucking other than backseat with this car hahaha. :panic::tmi:

hmm thats interesting because the series two was introduced in 95, must have not been put in some of the 3800s that year because I just looked it up and 96 was the first year the le sabre. Either way it's an L36 and pretty much everything I said still applies just the same.
If you're looking for any performance parts, I'd suggest 3800performance.com, zzperformance.com, thrashercharged.com, intense-racing.com. Some good stuff on there but not cheap, and most of it is getting pretty into it. No hurt in looking tho

KLAB 12-23-2009 12:31 AM

Fuck that no V6 performance parts for me I'll save it for my LT1 lol but the fuckn steering rack is all fucked up in the thing so fuck that... dont have time to put a rack in it... :c when will it end!?!?!?

Formula413 12-23-2009 01:06 AM

Did you ever look at that Escort coupe you posted?

ILuvPizzaTimes10 12-23-2009 01:29 AM

racks arent that bad to do actually Klab!!

whitdog54 12-23-2009 06:23 PM

series 1? I wonder if you can swap over any GN parts....The Intake manifold designs on the 3800s blow...especially the two piece set up like in mine.
